Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Outpatient Booking Co-ordinator (OPBC) to join the Cardiology Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust.
At the QEH Cardiology is one of the largest outpatient services and compromises of 29 consultant cardiologists specialising in adult congenital heart disease (ACHD), interventional cardiology, heart failure, imaging and electrophysiology.
The OPBC will be responsible for the day to day management of Cardiology's outpatient referrals.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who relishes a challenge and is keen to use their own initiative. You will be required to work to a high standard of accuracy, have excellent organisational skills and be able to demonstrate initiative in planning your own workload.
The successful post holder should have a proactive and friendly attitude and be able to demonstrate previous administrative experience. The candidate should have excellent communication skills and be able to meet the main duties of the role as identified in the job description.
This post is full time (37.5 hours) and fixed term for 12 months (maternity leave cover).

Main duties of the job
Main duties --
*Schedule patients into clinics using set criteria
*Booking patient appointments
*Create documents, spreadsheets and reports
*Submitting and validating clinical data
*Use Trust systems to input electronic data as required
*To exercise initiative and judgement based on acquired knowledge and experience when dealing with enquiries
*Dealing with telephone enquiries as appropriate
*Assist colleagues as directed by the Line Manager in times of pressure of work
*Notify patients of new or changes to appointments
*Accurately record telephone messages/enquiries and refer as appropriate
*Managing GP, internal and tertiary referrals
*Managing outpatient waiting lists using Trust systems
*Managing GP Advice and Guidance requests

*Good communication / customer care skills both written and verbal demonstrating sympathy and compassion
*Good keyboard/ IT skills
*Good organisation skills and ability to multitask
*Good time management skills
*Ability to deal professionally with enquiries from staff and patients
*Ability to problem solve
*Understand confidentiality and apply the principles in every day working practice
*Ability to pay attention to detail where there are predictable interruptions to the work pattern
*Ability to deal with stressful situations and sensitive issues
*Work effectively and flexibly as part of a team to meet the needs of the services
