Job summary
The Runcorn Road Renal Dialysis Unit is a nurse led outpatient's facility, specially designed to provide high quality dialysis treatment in the community setting. The speciality is responsible for the provision of supporting the kidney patients on haemodialysis. As a Health Care Assistant, you will be responsible for participating and assisting in the delivery of care/services to patients, e.g., set up and maintain a safe area for dialysis, correct decontamination of equipment, preparation of haemodialysis machine, etc., The unit consists of 26 stations and operates 6 days a week; working a flexible 3 shift patterns (early, late and twilight). The Renal Directorate also consists of Hospital Units and at times the job will require some cross site work.

Main duties of the job
*The Health Care Assistant role, is about providing patient centred care, for example, personal care, recording observations, infection control, correct decontamination of equipment, preparation of haemodialysis machine, etc.,
*Work cooperatively as part of the multi-disciplinary team supporting colleagues in work associated with patient care.
*Understand own level of responsibility and accountability in relation to registered staff.
*Communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their family, visitors and carers.
*Obtain verbal consent from the patient before any clinical intervention is undertaken; where this is not given report this to a registered nurse prior to undertaking the intervention.
*Through practice demonstrate an understanding of Duty of Care and how this contributes to safe practices.
*Assist and as required provide patients with personal care
*Following appropriate training and supervised practice, undertake identified competency based practices which are required for the ward / unit, after such tasks have been delegated to them by a registered nurse.
*Identify learning and development needs and produce a personal development plans in conjunction with your line manager / supervisor.
*Achieve and maintain competence in mandatory and statutory training associated with the role.
*Complete documentation of care in line with the Trust Standards for Documentation.
