Main duties of the job
We have over 20,000 members of staff and we are committed to investing in their development and their health and wellbeing.
The current respiratory service at UHBFT comprises 40+ consultant respiratory physicians and consultant clinical scientists across several sub speciality teams. The service has strong MDT bases that provide regional services in cystic fibrosis, interstitial and occupational lung disease, lung transplantation, severe asthma, pulmonary tuberculosis and sleep and ventilation. Teams are supported by respiratory nurse specialists, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist and psychologists. The Trust provides lung cancer services in conjunction with one of the largest thoracic surgery units in the country supported by a team of lung cancer nurses and MDT co-ordinators. There are state of the art lung function and sleep services and well established Endobronchial Ultrasound and local anaesthetic thoracoscopy services.

We are seeking a talented individual who has recently obtained their Respiratory CCT and wishes to obtain further specialist experience in the management of interstitial lung disease (ILD). This post will be predominantly based at the QE Hospital. The Birmingham Interstitial Lung Disease Unit is a designated Regional Specialist Unit. One of the largest units in the country, it looks after more than 3000 patients from Birmingham, the West Midlands and beyond, via a number of sites across the city. In addition to providing a commissioned anti-fibrotic service, we look after patients with a range of interstitial lung and rare lung diseases and have close links with onsite speciality colleagues. We run specialist joint clinics in cardiac sarcoidosis, neurosarcoidosis, pulmonary vasculitis, occupational lung disease and palliative care and are supported by a team of ILD specialist nurses and coordinators.
The successful applicant will contribute to ILD multi-disciplinary meetings and clinics, and have the opportunity to take part in ILD research, clinical trials and development. They will work within a multi-disciplinary team supporting nurses and allied healthcare professionals, and will have the opportunity to be involved in super-specialty clinics and MDTs. They will be expected to deliver in-patient care to a cohort of respiratory and general medical patients in a physician of the week model, together with 1:8 weekend ward cover.
