A vacancy exists for a part time band 3 Diabetes Maternity Care Assistants (MCA) to work within our Good Hope Hospital team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable person to join our Maternity Diabetes team who is able to work flexibly within the diabetes team in order to provide the best care to our women and their families. This is a dynamic and important role within the team and you will work closely alongside the diabetes midwives and will also be expected to work independently with daily duties.
Main duties of the job
The primary role of the Diabetes Maternity Care Assistant is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to women centred care.
The diabetes MCA will work under the direct or indirect supervision of the diabetes specialist midwife. The post requires working within the antenatal care environment but with the expectation of assisting on diabetes ward rounds for diabetic patients during their inpatient stay. Appropriate training will be provided for the clinical setting in which they are working.
You will undertake the Trust Induction Programme and undertake Manual Handling training. You will need excellent organisational, time-management and interpersonal skills and an ability to work within a team and on your own initiative is essential.
It is essential that you have 6 months experience in a healthcare setting, GCSE Maths and English Qualifications. Knowledge and experience in using IT systems and some knowledge of maternity services are desirable.
You must be open to change and interested in your own personal development. You must have the ability to communicate effectively and be flexible within the existing shift system and have an appreciation of the principles of confidentiality. You must be a team player, responsible for providing a wide range of care and duties to support women and their families.
