Job summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Band 4 full-time Medical Secretary Supervisor (37.5hrs per week) to join our friendly secretarial team within the Urology Department at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be based on Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham site.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who relishes a challenge and is keen to use their own initiative. The successful candidate will be required to be a key member of the Secretarial Team, providing a professional and high quality secretarial (including minute taking) and administrative service at all times. There is a lot of audio typing within this role along with a lot of medical terminology, therefore the successful candidate will need experience in this field.
You will be required to work to a high standard of accuracy and be able to demonstrate initiative in planning your own workload in a way that supports the consultants and the wider team. Our admin team is a part of a busy department and each consultant requiring a proactive secretary to manage their day-to-day admin, booking admissions/appointments, importing documentation to electronic patient records, audio typing letters, liaising with patients and colleagues both internally and externally. They must be willing to assist the consultant and the department in providing the best possible care to our patient and service users in line with our trust values and mission statement
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone with a minimum of 2 years medical secretarial experience, excellent touch-typing and audio typing skills, a good knowledge of medical terminology, a good working knowledge of the RTT pathway, experience with managing waiting lists, and someone who is a team player but has the initiative to complete their individual tasks in a timely manner.
We would like the successful candidate to be pro-active, approachable and supportive to both patient and colleagues, to have a conscientious approach to their work, and ability to demonstrate administrative experience and be able to meet the main duties of the role as identified in the job description.
You must possess excellent organisational skills and be experienced in dealing with confidential information.
The successful candidate will have a good standard of English and Maths and ideally possess an AMSPAR/medical terminology qualification/RSA III qualification (or equivalent). Secretarial, minute taking and audio typing experience are also essential. The candidate should also be able to demonstrate confidence in using MS Office as well as other IT systems.
