Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a centre of Pathology excellence at University Hospitals Birmingham, one of the largest teaching hospitals in England. We have state of the art facilities across 4 sites: Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope, Solihull hospital. The successful candidate will be expected to work across all sites.
We are looking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic HCPC registered Senior Biomedical Scientist, with MSc qualifications to work within Point of Care Testing (POCT). The candidate will need to have experience in POCT and Training. The successful individual will have the opportunity to develop the training requirements for POCT staff and clinical users. You will liaise with all Training Departments to implement a robust training strategy.
To support the expanding POCT service there are several devices that require staff to be trained and assessed as competent using Face to Face and e-learning modules. All of which need to be developed to support the Governance requirements of a safe and quality led service.
The Training Lead will be a vital person to implement, coordinate and deliver training. IT connectivity will be a critical element and the Training lead will work with the POCT manager and Trust IT.
POCT department delivers a dynamic service that actively promotes innovation and development, working towards UKAS accreditation. The post holder will be expected to work both alone and as part of a team, all working towards a common goal.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to have expert knowledge to lead a multi-disciplinary, coordinated approach to provide Trust wide training that is competency based across a range of POCT devices that can be complex in both clinical and training environments to all users by delivering targeted and demand led training.
The post holder will be training clinical staff, so there may be a requirement to work weekends, night shifts, statutory and public holidays. As you will be training staff in clinical areas the staff member must be willing to offer training sessions to fit around the needs of the clinical service especially when there is a new implementation.
You will be expected to develop training outlines, session plans, learning objectives, competency statements and visual aids. You will take part in devising and maintaining web- based education programmes in collaboration with medical illustration that will be accessible to all and accommodate the diverse learning needs of Trust wide staff.
The Trust has SLA agreements with external Trusts and the Training lead will co-ordinate any training support and delivery on these sites. University Hospitals Birmingham is part of the Birmingham and Solihull Network, and this post holder will work closely with our colleagues at Birmingham Women's and Childrens Hospital.
