An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and dynamic individual with an appropriate level of knowledge and skill to join the Pharmacy team as the Paediatrics and Women's pharmacist at UHB Trust.
We have an opportunity for different working patterns based on your needs as either TWO half-time posts (working 2.5 days a week) as a job-share or one full-time post.
UHB is one of the largest Trusts in England and has a large Paediatric department on the Heartlands site treating inpatients and outpatients. In this role you will support the provision of the clinical pharmacy service to the children's and neonatal wards. You will also assist the specialty lead pharmacist providing support to women's maternity services.
We are a centre of excellence for paediatric neuromuscular services, specialise in paediatric endocrinology and dermatology, and provide paediatric immunology and HIV services for the West Midlands. Our level 3 neonatal unit cares for premature babies as young as 22 weeks and amongst other services provide the Hypothermic Cooling Centre for the region.
Pharmacy is a valued member of the Paediatrics and Neonatal teams, and we regularly participate in MDT meetings including ward rounds, neonatal nutrition, safeguarding and discharge planning.
As we move forward to introduce our electronic prescribing and medicine administration system to our paediatric areas, this is an exciting time to join our team and gain excellent clinical and service development experience.
Main duties of the job
*Support and deliver the day-to-day clinical pharmacy service to the clinical speciality service through a team approach and at a high standard
* You will be introduced to core directorate activities - reporting and analysis of medicines expenditure, clinical governance and risk management activities, including review of PGDs and relevant policies. You will have the opportunity to train clinically to provide a neonatal intensive care service and neonatal parenteral nutrition.
*Ensures pharmacy and medicines management are taken account of in day-to-day operation of the service.
*Supports the specialist pharmacist in the developments to the pharmacy service to the specialty.
*Uses clinical knowledge to interpret blood test results in a clinically meaningful manner and make relevant interventions
*Communicates effectively with patients and the MDT, understands how to handle and resolve conflict
*Take on enhanced roles relating to education and training, such as developing training programmes and involvement with training of new doctors. You will have responsibility for the supervision of less experienced members of the team including junior pharmacists and trainee pharmacists.
*To take full part in clinical rota and late night/ weekend duties.
*You will join a team of clinical pharmacists who provide the on-call service with a back-up provided by the Specialist and Advanced Clinical Pharmacists.

- *Has completed or is near completion (within the next 6 months) a postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification.
