Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for one clinician to join UHB Trust as full-time Consultant Urologists with a specialist interest in bladder cancer.

The Urology Directorate is considered one of the busiest in the country and currently provides services across all four sites undertaking a combined total of 13,164 surgical procedures and 42,153 outpatient visits per year.

The medical compliment across the Trust consists of 20.30 WTE Consultants, and 2.00 WTE Associate Specialists. The Consultants are supported by 9.00 WTE Tier 3 doctors and 6.56 WTE junior specialty doctors. The department is extremely well equipped on all four sites with the most advanced technology and is supported by CNS and nursing team in the ward. The post holder will join a team of subspecialists to support the complex pelvic cancer service. The post-holder will primarily support the bladder cancer service. The post holder will contribute to the specialist cancer MDTs, supported by dedicated specialist nurses and other affiliated specialists.

The Terms and Conditions of service are offered on a 10 Programmed Activity basis. The ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team is vital. It is also anticipated that the successful candidate would contribute to increasing the national profile of the department.

A strong commitment from the appointee to the Department and involvement with governance and audit is expected.

Main duties of the job

The job will involve 10 weekly programmed activities which will include:

Two clinics

Operating sessions including pre and postoperative reviews

Ward round and Administration

Diagnostic activity

Cancer MDT meetings

On call 1 in 9

Core Supporting professional activities

Educational supervision/professional role

The successful candidate will contribute to a 1 in 9 on call rota. There is no elective commitment during the on call week. The consultant will be supported by a dedicated on call registrar. The final job plan will be agreed with the Clinical Service Lead upon appointment. The post-holders will be expected to work on more than one site.

Medical secretarial support (0.5 WTE) will be available. Office space and IT equipment will be provided in the Trust for supporting clinical activity.
