Job summary
The Fellow will play a crucial role in the limb reconstruction team, covering elective theatre sessions, outpatient clinics and ward work. This will involve complex acute trauma and post-traumatic conditions such as bone infection, non-union and deformity correction. This does not involve pelvic & ace tabular surgery, although there may be the opportunity to get involved in this if desired. A crucial element of the role will be liaising with other specialties, such as plastic surgery & microbiology, in the day to day management of complex trauma cases
Main duties of the job
This job is suitable for a post-FRCS (Orth) or post-CCT trainee who is looking for experience in the field of complex trauma and limb reconstruction, and is committed to a career in this field. Previous experience in this field, and in the field of lower limb trauma, is desirable but not essential.
The fellow will be expected to play a senior clinical role in the management of complex acute and post-acute trauma cases. This will involve elective theatre lists, elective complex trauma outpatient clinics and pre and post-operative ward work. The fellow will also attend the orthoplastic MDT and the bone infection MDT.
There may be scope for independent practice, depending on the experience of the fellow.
The fellow may choose to fulfil the role of CTC on call for the major trauma service, either as part of the rota or as an additional duty. This is chiefly a coordinating role, involving the primary care & direction of ongoing care of multiply injured patients, and includes a daily ward round.
