Job summary

Are you an Occupational Therapist seeking a new and stimulating challenge? If yes; this is an exciting 12 month opportunity to work in Critical Care and lead the planning, development and integration of Occupational Therapy into the MDT across Heartlands and Good Hope Hospital Critical Care units.

We are looking for a dynamic, innovative and highly motivated Occupational Therapist with substantial post registration experience working as a HCPC registered OT with experience and clinical knowledge and skills within Critical Care, or equivalent acute rehabilitation experience encompassing functional and cognitive rehabilitation. They will deliver high quality therapy care within Critical Care and outreach to ward based patients in partnership with ward based therapy teams and be able to manage a specialist clinical case load and provide advanced advice to the MDT.

You will need to demonstrate experience of clinical leadership, be an excellent team worker and collaborate with therapy leadership to transform the occupational therapy service in Critical Care as well as service development, changes to clinical practice and actively involved in audit and research.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will set up and lead the Critical Care Occupational Therapy service across both hospital sites, focussing on staff and service development whilst providing a high standard of OT assessment, intervention and goal setting to patients through evidence based practice.

You will be involved in early functional and cognitive rehabilitation with patients admitted into critical care alongside the MDT including Physiotherapists, Dieticians, Speech and Language Therapists as well as Critical Care Nurses and Medical teams. There will be a strong focus on early planning to facilitate safe, effective and timely hospital discharge; identification and provision of equipment, as well as liaising with relevant agencies including social services, community and follow up services.

You should possess excellent communication, team management and interpersonal skills. Well-developed prioritisation and organisational skills are essential as well as being able to undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and maintaining associated records. Furthermore you will be involved in proactively identifying learning needs, participate and lead teaching education sessions for staff including critical care health care professionals, Band 5 and 6 OT's, TSW's and students.

You will have a flexible approach to working across sites and are required to contribute to therapy 7 day service and weekend working.
