Job summary

The CDG Associate Director of Nursing works alongside the CDG Associate Director of Operations and CDG Associate Medical Director providing a triumvirate of leadership to assigned services within a CDG.

He/she is responsible for promoting the vision and values of University Hospitals Birmingham, leading by example and ensuring that they demonstrate those values in their leadership behaviours and how we support our teams and deliver our services.

Main duties of the job

In collaboration with the Hospital Nursing Director, the post holder has responsibility for the development, and improvement of patient care and experience across the CDG ensuring services reflect evidence based best practice, national and local policy, statute and guidance.

The post holder will have a key role in supporting the Hospital Nursing Director in the identification of CDG priorities and objectives including annual planning cycle, the post holder will contribute to the Group's Strategy development and planning exercise, ensuring that CDG plans support the delivery of both the Group and STP strategic objectives. He/she will support the Hospital Nursing Director in the creation of a modern and effective and developed strategy across the services within their sphere of responsibility and the post holder will fully plan, implement and operationalise that strategy

Essential

  • *Adult/Child/Midwife NMC Registered Practitioner (Adult/Child/Midwife dependent upon post (E)
  • *First Degree in Nursing or health related subject or equivalent (E)
  • *Masters in a Health Related Subject or equivalent demonstrable experience supplemented by specialist training, experience or short courses to doctorate level or equivalent (E)
  • *Evidence of recent post registration continuous professional development/qualification (E)
  • *Evidence of accredited management / leadership training or evidence of practical application of expertise at this level (E)
  • *Teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent (E)

Desirable

  • ** Project management/ service improvement qualification (D)

Experience

Essential

  • *Extensive experience post registration to include Senior Nursing posts at Band 8a or equivalent in an acute NHS provider or equivalent complex health care provider manging a number of services/departments as part of an MDT (E)
  • *Experienced operational service manager familiar with managing capacity and demand for patient services within acute patient services (scheduled and unscheduled) (E)
  • *Experience in setting and achieving objectives/KPI's (E)
  • ** Experience in leading and implementing safety/quality Application form and experience initiatives and sustainable service Improvement (E)
  • *Experience in contract management/negotiation associate with the speciality (D)
