Job summary

The Deputy Portering (GHH) is a support role to the Portering Manager (GHH). The post holder's role will be ensuring the Portering service is delivered to the standard service level specification and meets the key performance indicators (KPI's) whilst maintaining quality, providing an efficient and effective Facilities services to patients, staff and visitors across the site.

The post holder will lead and manage the Portering staff, developing all aspects of the services within financial parameters and budgetary constraint. The post holder is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the service are compliant with statutory requirements, best practice and maintain accreditation to quality management systems. Work with Facilities Managers in achieving standardisation of working practices, protocols and procedures.

The post holder is a key member of the Facilities Team and will be required to undertake projects and other duties in addition to main sphere of responsibility.

In undertaking the duties for this post the post holder must comply with the Department of Health's code of conduct for NHS Managers (October 2002).

Main duties of the job

*Support the Portering Manager (GHH) in providing leadership to the staff and developing future capacity.

*Support the Portering Manager (GHH) to drive through the delivery of quality standards and targets to continually improves performance within the service.

*Assist in providing professional support to the site team and colleagues outside of the department.

*Works closely with the Facilities Team.

*Support specific projects and pieces of work as directed by the Portering Manager (GHH).

*Working with the Portering Manager (GHH) and the site team to develop a strategy for continual improvement within the service.

*Challenge existing practices, ensuring that progressive solutions, which take into account models of best practice, are incorporated into service.

*Ensure that Portering services are delivered seamlessly across the site.

*Provides feedback on those services that are delivered by external contracts.

*Assist in maintaining and improving the Portering service specification and associated documentation.

*Maintaining records relating to Portering Services in line with the Trust Policy and associated Standard Operating Procedures e.g. equipment usage, medical gases, postal services.

*Deputise for the Portering Manager (GHH) in his/her absence.

*Support initiatives and projects as required by the Head of Facilities.

*Represent the Department/Trust both internally and externally where appropriate at local or national meetings.
