Job summary

UHB NHSFT is seeking enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Psychologists to join our newly established Paediatric Psychology Department. You will join a small and growing department of clinical psychologists, who are establishing a values led ethos, with care of staff as a priority. In addition to being part of this team, the successful candidate is expected to become an integrated member of the relevant multidisciplinary teams. Posts are available in the following areas - Neonatal, Diabetes, HIV and/or Cystic Fibrosis dependent on skills, experience and preference.

Main duties of the job

The roles involve providing specialist psychological assessments and interventions for children and young people with physical health conditions, and their families, primarily attending Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, but occasionally also at Solihull and Good Hope Hospitals. This will also include delivering consultation, supervision and bespoke training to paediatric colleagues, and the post holder will also be expected to provide supervision for assistant psychologists, trainees and/or equivalent more junior staff.

The post holder will be supported to develop as a clinician through supervision from more senior psychologists, training and CPD (for which there is an allocated budget).   • To have a British Psychological Society and HCPC approved Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council as Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Post Doctorate qualification(s) or training in conducting specialist assessments and/or specialist intervention/therapies.

Experience

  • Knowledge and experience of specialist psychological assessment and delivering evidence based interventions for a range of child and adolescent mental health difficulties.
  • Experience of representing psychology within the context a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of assessing and managing risky clients, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing situations, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of teaching, training and supervision.
  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts and working in a multicultural framework.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to children and young people and child protection and safeguarding.
  • Experience of working as a specialist clinical psychologist for a minimum of two years or WTE.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS/HCPC.
