Job summary
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Research Assistant to join the Sexual health and HIV Research team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB).
UHB has an international reputation in patient-centred research with research themes across Clinical trials, devices, Data and Regulation. We are a highly collaborative team and work closely with a number of academic institutions, industry, charities and other NHS Trusts to deliver research from registries and clinical trials into new medications.
The major research themes of the unit are focused on sexual health service delivery and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). In this role, you will work within existing well-supported UHB departments including the HIV department located at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham; the Umbrella sexual health service (umbrellahealth.co.uk) main Research team base at Whittal Street GUM Clinic and other Umbrella clinics as required in the research protocol; and the Research and Development department located in the Institute of Translational Medicine, Heritage Building, Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, one-year fixed-term post. Candidates are highly recommended to visit to discuss further. This is an excellent development opportunity for someone who wishes to pursue a career in research in the NHS.
Main duties of the job
The research assistant will be responsible for providing high-quality and confidential administrative support to researchers internally and externally. They will be accountable for ensuring trials are run to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards, entering trial data accurately, answering data queries, managing investigator site files, and facilitating study set-up. The post will involve face-to-face contact with research participants, including receiving informed consent and managing study appointments.
The post holder will need to be computer literate in Word, Excel, and Outlook mail with excellent organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail. They will need to be a flexible, hard-working, and motivated team member and have practical communication skills. They must have the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time prioritise their own workload and be able to work on both their own initiative and as part of a team. It would be highly advantageous to have experience in clinical research or some experience of working in a healthcare setting. Local training will be provided.
