Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for individuals to become an inpatient phlebotomist to service the Queen Elizabeth hospital wards for their phlebotomy needs.
We are very keen to hear from individuals who fit the person specification for this post who can demonstrate the enthusiasm and skills for helping to maintain and elevate the standards of our service.
This service encompasses inpatient care with some cross working with the Outpatient Team.
The successful candidates will work within a team led by a Sister/Charge Nurse responsible for the service and senior phlebotomist's who would allocate staff across the Queen Elizabeth hospital wards. Successful applicants will have key roles in the organisation performing phlebotomy, teaching and supervision of others in addition demonstrating competence to undertake a range of clinical practice associated with taking blood samples from patients.
The shifts required range from early morning to mid-afternoon between 06:00 to 14:00 and involves weekend work to provide service to the QEH wards.
Applicants must be highly motivated and flexible with very good communication skills and significant experience working in a health care setting. Experience in the field of venepuncture is desirable.
Main duties of the job
The post holder works as part of the department team under the supervision of Senior sister/charge nurse. The post holder will demonstrate a level of skill and understanding which enables them to undertake specific tasks delegated by the senior phlebotomist in charge and in accordance with phlebotomy procedures, guidelines and policies. They will undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which they have been trained and assessed as competent. The post holder will be in charge of carrying out the phlebotomy service in the wards and during the short fall, aid in the outpatients department.
