Would you like to lead a Speech and Language Therapy service within our nationally recognised tertiary centre? Would you like to maintain your clinical role alongside utilising your operational and strategic skills? This post involves provision of Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapy within the candidates own clinical specialist, at expert practitioner level and having operational and strategic responsibility, primarily for the inpatient SLT service.
The acute Speech and Language Therapy service will be supported by the post holder working closely with the Professional Lead for Speech and Language Therapy, Consultant Speech and Language Therapist, a peer outpatient Band 8a clinical lead SLT supporting a large team of Band 4 to 7 SLTs and SLT Assistants working within across a variety of caseloads including stroke, major trauma, medicine, head and neck cancer, critical care, neurology and neurosurgery.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate would lead the Speech and Language Therapy service at QEHB, primarily focusing on the inpatient service. The responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:
- Act at an expert practitioner level, providing clinical input within own clinical speciality to an acute caseload and to the wider multi-disciplinary team.
- Support the Therapy Lead and Professional Lead by leading and co-ordinating the team of speech and language therapists and support staff in delivering a clinically prioritised and safe service.
- Lead the planning and delivery of regular training and development for staff both within and outside of the service including the programme to undergraduate, and potentially postgraduate, SLT students on clinical placement.
- Be actively engaged in the service delivery including business continuity, service planning, clinical governance and service innovation. Collaborating with senior colleagues in Finance, Human Resources, Facilities and associated departments, with carer and voluntary organisations and with Higher Education Institute leads.
This role also includes advising the SLT department on possible research opportunities that might arise as a consequence of working closely with the MDT with particular reference to maintaining safety and the quality of care for patients with multiple pathologies

Essential
- A good standard of secondary education including A-Level or equivalent.
- BSc or recognised MSc degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
- Masters level or equivalent of study or development.
- Membership of RCSLT.
- Registration with HCPC.
- Completed RCSLT Level C/ EDS Level 5 dysphagia competencies (or above).
- Substantial advanced post-graduate training, through attendance at recognised short courses and via personal study, practical skill development and in-depth experience.
- Advanced theoretical knowledge in area/s of clinical practice, at a Masters level or equivalent.
- Leadership training.
Desirable
- Advanced training in e.g. video fluoroscopy, FEES, tracheostomy and/or surgical voice restoration.
