Job summary

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic Registered or soon to qualified adult nurses to come and join our amazing nursing teams in Respiratory/Thoracic Nursing at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This is an opportunity to join a growing team, dedicated to delivering compassionate person-centred care and to play a key role in innovation and transformation. The workload throughout the department is very varied and interesting with no two days being the same. The successful candidate must be dynamic, possess excellent communication skills and have a high sense of professionalism and a strong belief in the value of teamwork.

As a new member of the team, despite how much training you have had in the past, you will be fully supported by our dedicated clinical education team, allowing you to build on your existing nursing skills for your future career and development within Respiratory/Thoracic Nursing. Study days will be readily available, developing your competencies in all areas of Respiratory and Thoracic Nursing. We have full and part time positions available and offer a range of long and short days and support flexible working.

Main duties of the job

Wards 515/516 are 36 bedded acute respiratory wards these areas specialise in many different complex respiratory conditions including COPD, asthma, bronchiectasis and ILD. We also have Level 2 inpatient areas providing high dependency care for Non-Invasive Ventilation, CPAP and patients with Tracheostomies.

On Ward 513, we provide Level 2 high care to post-operative patients that have had complex thoracic procedures such as Video-assisted thoracoscopy surgery (VATS), chest drains, spontaneous pneumothorax, lobectomies, and chest wall reconstructions.

The post holder will practice autonomously and be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate person centred evidence based nursing that respects and maintains dignity and human rights. They will be responsible for assessment of care needs of patients and planning programmes of care, implementation and the evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision. They will be responsible for supporting and supervising junior members of staff and students on the ward.
