Job summary

The University Hospital Birmingham Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a consultant surgeon in hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery. The post is for a surgeon who is fully competent in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. Candidates must demonstrate that they can work within a multidisciplinary team. Evidence of an active research and an educational interest will be beneficial. Experience with specialist innovative hepatobiliary surgery practices, including laparoscopic and robotic techniques will be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

The post is based at the Liver Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

The successful candidate will be fully involved in the hepatobiliary surgical services and will participate as a leading member of the multidisciplinary team for the assessment, management and follow up of patients with liver, biliary and pancreatic diseases. The appointed candidate will be expected to perform advanced liver, biliary and pancreatic surgery and have skills in including laparoscopic techniques. The appointee is expected to take part in multiorgan retrievals.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a 1:6 on-call rota to provide cover for HPB surgery and also participate in the liver transplant organ retrieval rota. On call activity includes HPB lists, ward rounds and outreach HPB emergency service.
