Job summary

We seek to appoint a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to become a Senior Infection Prevention and Control Nurse for our University Hospitals of Birmingham Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the quality of care and improve outcomes for patients.

A Registered Nurse with a recognised infection prevention and control qualification and experience of working in Infection Prevention and control. You will have current significant experience in improving practice in infection prevention and control within a health care setting, experience of delivering education to colleagues and be able to demonstrate your commitment to continual professional development.

As part of a responsive team, you will be a strong role model for infection prevention and control and with support of the lead nurse team develop more junior colleagues, provide advice for health care services within UHB. Working autonomously, you will inspire and influence staff, empowering them to ensure that all infection prevention and control policies and procedures are fulfilled and evidenced based and support in making local improvements.

The role involves providing evidence-based advice on all aspects of infection prevention and control and supporting local investigations. Excellent communication skills are essential for promoting standards of infection prevention and control.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job involve providing specialist infection control nursing advice to patients and staff. You will be a point of contact for information and advice for the patient, family and carers and all staff involved in the care of patients.

You will be required support the development of staff through formal and informal education, practice development and role modelling.

As a Senior IPCN you will practice under the direction of the Lead nurse team, working at agreed levels of competence, skills and knowledge to enable independent autonomous practice within your scope of clinical practice.

You will need to have good time management skills be able to undertake a number of duties autonomously as well as working with in a large team. Good communication skills are essential.

In in conjunction with other relevant clinical staff the post holder will assist with clinical development in maintaining and improving all aspects of clinical governance, evidence based practice and quality assurance and monitoring within the service.

In the role you will need to use a range of techniques to ensure and monitor standards of infection prevention and control are met. Through clinical practice, audit, research and teaching to continually improve standards of care and patient experience.

The infection prevention and control team are there to ensure safe and effective clinical practice, enhance patient experience and ensure effective delivery of organisational objectives.
