Job summary
This role is a key role in ensuring patients are transferred from one area to another within the division in timely, safe manner to enable flow and capacity is maintained efficiently.
* Support the movement of patients to undertake investigations, prompt transfer to diagnosis areas which will support prompt diagnosis and treatment plans.
* Support movement of patients from one area to another area within the division.
* In the absence of no transfers required within the allocated work area it is expected that participates will play a key role in the delivery of patient centred care, maintaining a compassionate and professional attitude at all times.
* Contributes to the ward / department organisation to deliver blood samples to pathology and other support services that the ward may need.
* Support registered nurses in the provision of a caring and safe environment.

The post holder will demonstrate competence in generic and specialist skills as required within a time frame agreed with their manager following the completion of appropriate training and education. The Band 2 Transfer HCA will function at a competency level in line with the requirements of the post and achieve and maintain both mandatory and statutory training requirements associated with the role.
Main duties of the job
*Assist patients into wheelchairs and onto beds; ensuring their comfort in readiness for transport to a designated area.
*Move patients by wheelchair or bed or stretcher around the hospital site from various wards and departments and can involve some distance.
*Assist patients requiring support on discharge from nursing unit or treatment area to the hospital exit points.
*Deliver all drugs, including controlled drugs as well as IV fluids to wards and departments in accordance with policy and procedures set by clinical governance.
*To support Flow Coordinators in their role in relation to collection of TTO's from Pharmacy, taking specimens to Pathology and prompt transfer of patients to designated areas.
*Use paper and electronic systems to retrieve and record patient information in line with Trust documentation standards and operational systems.
*In instances when a patient/ visitor feels the need to raise concern or complain attempt to deal with this locally initially, but always inform a registered nurse.
*Assist and as required provide patients with personal care
*Following appropriate training and supervised practice, undertake identified competency based practices which are required for the ward/unit, after such tasks have been delegated to them by a registered nurse.
*Identify learning and development needs and produce a personal development plans in conjunction with your line manager/supervisor.
