Job summary
The Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) service/structural heart team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is seeking a Band 7/6 Nurse Specialist to join this dynamic team and growing service. The TAVI/structural heart team cares for patients undergoing treatment with Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), mitral and tricuspid transcatheter edge-edge-repair (TEER), balloon mitral valvuloplasty and paravalvular leak closure. This includes initial diagnosis and assessment, medication adjustment, preparation for procedures, participation in implant procedures and after-care in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. The TAVI service undertakes approximately 300 procedures per year and around 60 other structural heart interventions. The current team comprises one TAVI lead CNP, 3 implanting consultants and one secretary.

Under the mentorship of the lead TAVI CNP, TAVI director/structural heart consultants, the successful post holder will positively contribute to the care delivery of patients with heart valve defects that requiring percutaneous intervention. Their role will be to provide the necessary nursing clinical expertise, education, support and guidance to patients and their carers.
Advanced health assessment and prescription of medication are critical components of the role, possession of the Health assessment Course and Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP), or commitment to acquire these, qualifications are essential. Prospective Band 7 candidates must be able to demonstrate relevant, significant post registration experience in cardiology or CNS Band 6 experience in cardiology.
The responsibilities of the post span acute in-patient care and follow-up in the outpatient setting, both face to face and telephone consultations.
