Job summary

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our busy, friendly team to work in our progressive laboratories rotating through the Haematology, Blood Transfusion, and Coagulation sections.

The Directorate has undergone exciting major changes in recent years with the majority of laboratory services provided between a new build on the Heartlands Hospital site and the new build Hospital on the Queen Elizabeth site.

Vacancies are available for Band 5 Biomedical Scientists (Full-time 37.5hrs) at HGS sites (Heartlands, Good Hope, and Solihull).

We support Continuous Professional Development. Encouragement is given to attend and participate in both internal and external lectures / seminars. Further study and attending meetings when presenting scientific posters and papers are strongly encouraged.

A 24/7 service operates at Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals, with reduced service at Solihull Hospital and after appropriate training you will be expected to participate in the departmental shift system which attracts AfC enhanced payments.

Applicants must have HCPC registration. You must have an IBMS accredited BSc in Biomedical Science, ideally with experience of working in an NHS laboratory.

Main duties of the job

The laboratories receive over half a million Haematology requests annually, providing a twenty-four hour diagnostic and monitoring services. The laboratories are ISO 15189 and IBMS accredited and MHRA approved. Successful applicants will rotate through Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion and therefore must have an IBMS accredited Degree and a HCPC Registration Portfolio.

Currently the laboratory operates a 24/7 shift system. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in out-of-hours rota once fully trained, and have a thorough knowledge of UK regulatory bodies, such as UKAS, MHRA, & HCPC.
