Job summary

The post holder will play a key role in the West Midlands Secure Data Environment (WM SDE) Team and will support on collating datasets across the West Midlands region. They will be responsible for data curation and management of large health datasets within the West Midlands across a wide range of clinical projects. They will also support the generation of new understandings from data relevant to our patients and the population whose health needs we serve, and novel approaches to the delivery of research trials, ensuing value and benefits realisation through the successful delivery of key components of Projects (against priorities and timescales defined by the Trust or Customers/Collaborators and agreed with the Director of Research Development & Innovation).

The post holder will be expected to have experience of managing large multi-dimensional datasets including patient activity, prescribing data, and labs data. They will be responsible for creating and managing tables used to populate research dashboards and internal and external reporting. The post-holder will be responsible for identifying data sources, understanding key data elements, analysis and maintaining the necessary documentation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to be highly experienced in SQL and SSMS and be technically competent with evidence of continuous learning and development and ability to adapt to new reporting tools. They will provide directors, senior managers and clinicians with reports addressing a wide range of operational, clinical, strategic and policy questions.

The post-holder will work closely with the Principal Data Developers, the WM SDE Technical team, large global tech companies, pharma companies and SMEs as well as further working relationships with external research communities (e.g. University of Birmingham, other HEIs, NIHR, HDR UK, MRC), other NHS structures (e.g. Trusts, ICBs) , Charitable sector and commercial third parties.

The post holder will work independently and with other members of the team as a specialist in data wrangling and clinical data linkage on the internal databases. The role will also include supporting with development of the Trusts Research Data Warehouse.

*Design and write complex data extraction queries using SQL Server

*Expertise in T-SQL, ETL processes, Excel, PowerBI,

*Develop a strong understanding of data wrangling and data engineering including the promotion of best practice within the Health Data Science team (RD&I)

*Develop an expert level of proficiency in the use of the RD&I department's software tools such as but not limited to; SQL, python and docker.
