Job summary
The post holder will play a key role in the team providing statistical analysis and analytical support to clinicians and researchers. The post-holder will work closely with the Director of Digital Healthcare, Principal Research Informatician under direction from the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Research, Development and Innovation. The post-holder will lead on evaluations of innovations within the organisation's Digital Healthcare record, as well as projects evaluating how the Digital Healthcare Record can solve hospital problems. The role will be responsible for line managing members of staff working on similar projects and should be able to provide guidance and support to other staff members.
The post holder will work independently as the team's lead specialist, with guidance from the Principal Research Informatician, in statistical analysis and clinical data extraction and linkage using the internal databases. They will be expected to have experience of using advanced statistical methods to analyse large datasets including patient activity and clinical information. They will be responsible for applying complex statistical tests to the trusts clinical information, and reporting this information back to the organisation and where appropriate the wider population through the medium of research papers, where they would be expected to be the first author.
Main duties of the job
Analytical skills & knowledge
* Interprets, monitors, and analyses information regarding policies, procedures, demographics, and operational outcomes yielding actionable information to guide decisions in wide-ranging areas
* Drive collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources; apply and use algorithms or other advanced techniques to accomplish this
* Answer questions by developing research methodology, gathering data and/or using appropriate statistical techniques on available data
* Design and write complex data extraction queries using SQL Server
* Employ a range of complex statistical techniques to analyse data
* To undertake to proactively monitor and seek to improve the data quality of key research datasets
* Develop an expert level of proficiency in the use of the department's software tools such as but not limited to; SQL, Spotfire, SAS, R, Excel, and MapInfo
* Develop an expert knowledge in Trust databases and how the data is stored
* Develop an expert understanding of how the Trust and wider NHS operates
* Participate in professional and personal development activities and promote a commitment to continuous improvement and career development
