Job summary
There is an opportunity for a motivated individual to join the ENT department at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust.
This is a new post and it is open to those who have a subspecialist training in Otology. It will be expected that the appointee can complement the skills and the sub-specialities in the department. The appointee will be expected to support the ENT department by managing urgent and routine referrals in order to meet the targets. The appointee should be competent in complex major ontological surgery. There will be the opportunity to develop specialist skills such as hearing implant surgery.
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is the largest multi-site trust in UK. The ENT Department works across four sites: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Birmingham Heartlands Hospital (BHH), Good Hope Hospital (GHH) and Solihull Hospital (SH).
The ENT Department has 30 whole time equivalent consultants. The appointee will be mainly based at QEH with some cross- site working. Elective theatre sessions will be at QEH and Heartlands Treatment Centre (HTC) or Solihull Hospital. Outpatient clinics are held at QEH, GHH, SH or HTC.
Main duties of the job
The job plan will include a commitment to clinic, theatre and on call duties. The on call commitment will be for the QEH admitting site and is currently run as a 1 in 14 1st on consultant, supported by a registrar and FY/CT on call. There is a separate 1 in 21 out of hours and weekend on consultant rota to support Solihull Hospital. All clinical activities are cancelled when on call as 1st on consultant. Time will be given for admin and supporting professional activities. The appointee will be expected to attend and contribute to Clinical Governance, teaching and audit within the department. Access to a car is essential for on call purposes.

Candidates must be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of their CCT/ CSER at the time of interview. Candidates must have an advanced otology Fellowship at the time of commencement of the post.
