Job summary

We are seeking to employ a fully qualified Team Leader to join a busy Estates Maintenance department at Good Hope Hospital.

The ideal candidates will be competent in their core trade but also be trained in other core mechanical skills to assist and support the needs of the service to the Trust.

The role will involve the line managing, co-ordinating and assisting mechanical trade staff and external contractors. These persons will be carrying out maintenance on installations and repair works on a wide range of Mechanical engineering systems, and these include Hot & Cold Water Systems, LTHW, ventilation plant and equipment.

Candidates to have suitable relevant Supervision/Team Leader experience in a commercial premises or similar. (previous NHS experience would be an advantage but not essential)

There will be a requirement to participate in the Supervisor on-call rota for out of hours maintenance cover.

Optional overtime is also available to enhance salary in addition to basic salary + on call payments.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will undertake and support in house estates staff and external contractors on fault finding for complex systems such as steam & condensate, heating, hot water, air conditioning, medical gas, natural gas, water plus other critical healthcare systems and equipment. You will be required to us cause and effect analysis and detailed examinations to gain the solutions required.The suitable candidate will able to communicate clearly and confidently with all staff and apply there in-depth mechanical knowledge as required while ensuring compliance with the health and safety work act 1974.Complex mechanical service drawings and specifications will be used on a regular basis , you will be required to interpret these with a comprehensive understanding.You will be responsible for the issue of work permits such as Hot Works & Roof Access Permits.Must be able to work under own initiative in respect of fault diagnosis and out of hours working without supervision.

Essential

  • * Post-Secondary Education in a relevant field C.S.E. , O LEVEL, G.C.S.E, N.V.Q.
  • * Course 205 in Mechanical Engineering Maintenance Part 2 (205-3) Or
  • * Course 596 in Plumbing Advanced Craft Certificate (596-2)in Both -- Sanitary Plumbing Plus Installation and Maintenance of Domestic Heating Systems and Appliances. Or
  • * Course 596 Plumbing Craft Certificate ( 596-1)Plus course 599 Construction Service Welding Advanced Craft ( 599-2 Or
  • * An equivalent qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in a relevant Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering discipline Or
  • * BTEC/ONC in Mechanical Engineering or Building Service Engineering

Experience

Essential

  • * Completion of a registered apprenticeship or structured training program in Electrical Engineering for a minimum of 3 years
  • * Post training, site experience having demonstrated high versatility and flexibility
  • * Background in Electrical Engineering, equipment or Building services installation, alteration, maintenance or fault finding
  • * Ability to work without supervision and confident to take decisions based on own ability.
  • * Adaptable to change.
  • * Capable working to deadlines

Desirable

  • * Previous experience of working in an acute Hospital environment or similar demanding role.
  • * Previous supervisory experience.
  • * Knowledge of electrical distribution, standby generation and fire alarms
