We are a designated Level 1 Trauma centre and host of the UK's only 20m National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (SRMRC).

Main duties of the job

To join the Thoracic team to support services at the UHBFT and peripheral hospitals supported by the directorate as a regional centre. The successful applicant will be expected to share the aspirations and vision of the division and provide a wide ranging high quality service for patients. This includes some rotational commitments to cover colleagues when they are away on leave as per an annualised job framework.

*The successful candidate will be a member of the Thoracic Surgical Directorate at UHB and will be expected to participate in Directorate meetings.

*The successful candidate will share the responsibilities for the West Midlands with 6 other consultants; the post-holder will provide specialist care in Thoracic Surgery with responsibility for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Thoracic Surgical Disease. This role will include participation in clinical and research development taking place in the department.

*To support the provision of Thoracic services to include out of hours and on call within the Trust.

*To develop close collaborative links with all colleagues within the multidisciplinary team setting to develop services to patients to the highest possible standards according to Directorate protocols and in line Trust objectives.

*To take part in MDT meetings as per Job Plan
