Job summary
The Close Relative Relationship Midwife will work as part of a dynamic team delivering high quality care by supporting managers and staff across the maternity service.
The post holder will proactively work with expectant families from Pakistani ethnic groups and those at greater risk from genetic related disorders, providing greater awareness and improving access to genetic services for families and enabling informed reproductive decision-making.
The fixed term post is for 6 months with further extension.
The post holder will:
Ensure timely referrals to the genetic service
Initiate sensitive, appropriate conversations to those affected with autosomal recessive disorders linked to close relative relationship
Establish the role within the midwifery team and be a point of contact and/or referral for other midwives.
Ensure a common understanding of genetic risk
Promote the use of standardised resources and materials
Disseminate learning and support teams
Ensure open communication and with key stakeholders and service users
