Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse to join our busy CAPD Unit at Heartlands. The post will be a band 5/6 post depending on experience.

The CAPD unit is an outpatient based unit who provide care and support for patients who require treatment for End Stage Renal Failure.

Our working times are from 8am -- 4pm Monday to Friday.

We provide holistic care and education to a variety of patients with complex kidney conditions.

Patients are able to perform peritoneal dialysis at home which allows them to continue working and maintain their independence and quality of life.

Our PD programme has grown considerably over the last 2 years and we need a nurse who will be able to support this growing population

We currently have approximately 130 patients on PD. The patients are offered various forms of treatment including CAPD, APD and AAPD.

We are currently expanding our patient numbers with a focus on channelling them towards this dialysis modality.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced registered nurse with excellent communication skills who is committed to the care and treatment of renal patients undertaking PD as a home therapy and is able to excel in a busy environment.

The role of a PD nurse is a very autonomous role and involves running nurse led outpatient clinics, monitoring PD inpatients, training patients how to perform their own PD and also visiting patients in the community and providing ongoing training and support.

It is preferable that the post holder has experience in the care of patients with chronic kidney disease and has an understanding of peritoneal dialysis and a strong understanding of chronic illness.
