Were looking for a GP Clinical Lead to join us at Harewood Medical Practice. Our team is supportive, close-knit and genuinely committed to doing the best for a unique patient population here in Catterick Garrison. We've got exciting changes ahead with a move to a brand new, purpose-built Integrated Care Centre in June 2026, and we need someone who can help lead us through that next chapter. In this salaried GP Clinical Lead role in addition to providing direct patient treatment and care you will provide excellent clinical leadership across the range of clinical services within Harewood Medical Practice (HMP). You will ensure the delivery of safe, clinically effective and efficient General Practice Services for our unique population.

You will work alongside our excellent practice leadership team including the Deputy Clinical Lead and Practice Manager as well as the wider clinical MDT and be further supported by the team at Heartbeat CIC.

The role is 25 hours per week (with possibility for up to 30 hours).Flexible although at least one working day will be a Tuesday. Dedicated leadership time at two sessions/week

Working in close, integral partnership with the Practice Manager and Deputy Clinical Lead to lead the performance and delivery of Harewood Medical Practice.

Building and maintaining effective relationships with external healthcare providers, local authorities, and other stakeholders.

Leading on clinical decision making within the practice in partnership with the Deputy Clinical Lead.

Providing assurance to the Executive Director and wider board with the Practice Manager and Deputy Clinical Lead and regularly reporting on the performance, wellbeing and service delivery on behalf of HMP.

Encouraging and leading a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the practice.

Providing clinical leadership and oversight to the wider HMP team.

Supporting professional development for clinical staff members.

About us

Our Practice has a list of approximately 8,000 patients and a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, were part of Heartbeat Primary Care CIC, a values-driven organisation shaping neighbourhood health across Hambleton & Richmondshire. The successful candidate will join Harewood's Management team consisting of the Practice Manager and Deputy Clinical Lead with input from Heartbeat's Executive Director.

You will be joining a clinical team of 4 Salaried GPs, 2 Nurse Practitioners, 2 Clinical Pharmacists, 3 Practice Nurses and 2 HCAs with a longstanding and high calibre administration team supporting. Our patients are also supported by First Contact Practitioners for Physiotherapy and Mental Health.

We operate successfully a Total Triage access model, are rated CQC Good and are adept at supporting our predominately younger and highly mobile population.

1. Key Responsibilities Clinical Lead

With a particular focus on the Clinical aspects of services ensure the delivery of safe, clinically effective and efficient General Practice Services within Harewood Medical Practice (HMP).

Work in close, integral partnership with the Practice Manager and Deputy Clinical Lead to lead the performance and delivery of Harewood Medical Practice.

Build and maintain effective relationships with external healthcare providers, local authorities, and other stakeholders.

In partnership with the Deputy Clinical Lead lead on clinical decision making within the practice.

Alongside the Practice Manager and Deputy Clinical Lead, provide assurance to the Executive Director and wider board regularly to report on the performance, wellbeing and service delivery on behalf of HMP.

Encourage and lead a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the practice.

Provide clinical leadership and oversight to the wider HMP team.

Support professional development for clinical staff members.

Implement and monitor quality assurance programs to maintain and improve clinical standards.

Ensure compliance with all relevant governance frameworks and policies including CQC.

Identify and manage clinical risks, implementing strategies to mitigate potential issues and alerting others within the organisation where necessary in a timely manner.

Write and review necessary clinical policies with the other members of the management team.

Input into the design of service delivery to ensure services are both safe and sustainable including seasonal or one off/pilot services.

Oversee clinical input into the complaints/learning/significant events processes.

Be available and supportive to other members of the HMP team regarding clinical support and advice.

Regularly review HMP readiness for a CQC inspection from a clinical perspective, overseeing improvements to achieve Good or better CQC assessment.

2. Key Responsibilities Salaried GP

In accordance with the Practice workplan, as agreed, the post holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, issuing and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, clinical admin and correspondence in a timely fashion in line with the total triage approach.

Makes professionally autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred internally within the Practice.

Receives patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems and makes assessment of their health care needs.

Screens patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

Develops care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols.

Provides counselling and health education.

Prescribes in accordance with the ICB prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate.

Admits or discharges patients to and from caseload and refers them to other care providers internally or externally as appropriate.

Supports the trainers in teaching in the Practice and gives clinical supervision to training doctors.

Complies with relevant Practice policy/guidelines, e.g. safeguarding, confidentiality issues etc.

Is committed to lifelong learning, audit and effectiveness issues to ensure evidence based best practice.

Consults with patients in the surgery and at home visits as agreed internally between clinicians.

Be available for 'on-call' duties to answer patients' telephone queries or carry out emergency home visits, or surgery consultations as appropriate.

Contributes to the evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting with colleagues.

Records clear and contemporaneous I.T. based consultation notes to agreed standards.

Collects data for audit purposes.

Compiles and issues computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).

In general, the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Contributes to the strategic management and development of the Practice e.g., in developing and contributing to Practice policies and guidelines.

Attendance at training, Practice Meetings and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Meets all tight timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure that the Practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (e.g., Enhanced Services returns, QOF, IIF audit etc.)

Ensuring full accreditation which will include full and unrestricted registration with the GMC, membership of an appropriate defence body, performers list and delivery of annual evidence for appraisal or accreditation purposes in keeping with National requirements at any time.
