Job responsibilities

To attend all educational sessions as directed by the university, submitting all assignments and reports promptly as requested.

To maintain a close liaison with practice supervisor and assessor throughout the course, and to agree a clinical learning programme which will facilitate and support theoretical learning and reflect the value of practice centred education.

To demonstrate the ability to transfer previous professional knowledge and skills in the development of District nursing practice.

To work within the agreed programme to achieve all objectives to the required standard.

To demonstrate the capacity to develop new skills. Displaying integration of theoretical knowledge with knowledge and experience derived from practice.

To develop an awareness and involvement in the delivery of nursing within the Primary Care Home with the support, guidance and mentoring of senior community nurses/ District nurse.

To take personal responsibility to identify and highlight any areas of concern regarding clinical and or theoretical progress and development in a timely manner.

To be able to identify own areas of professional and personal development.

To participate in regular clinical supervision with practice supervisor.

Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and carers, respecting patient confidentiality with privacy and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds and requirements.

Communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to patients, relatives or carers, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating and empathetic skills are required.

To deliver clinical interventions whilst in clinical practice - these may include holistic assessment, wound assessment and care, leg ulcer management, end of life care, medication administration via parenteral routes.

To critically evaluate research findings, national guidelines and support the implementation of changes in clinical practice as appropriate.

Be wholly accountable for practice taking every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge and professional competence and, ensure all aspects of professional behaviour as required within professional code are always followed.

Maintain legible, accurate and contemporaneous patient records in accordance with ECCH Policy and Nursing and Midwifery Council standards for record keeping.

Take responsibility to ensure compliance with Health and Safety Policy, Fire and Environmental Waste Regulations.

Be responsible for understanding, following, and implementing ECCH policies and procedures.

Ensure own compliance with ECCH risk management systems, proactively identifying risk, reporting, and managing risk within area of responsibility.

Take responsibility for the cost-effective management and safe use of expensive clinical equipment,

Contribute to the effective use of resources.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Registered Nurse Level 1 (Adult)
• BSc in Nursing Practice or equivalent or evidence of ability to study at Masters level

Desirable

• Mentorship/ preceptorship qualification/ ENB 998

Experience

Essential

• Relevant post qualification experience (by commencement of prescribing module in Sept 2023)
• Evidence of continued professional development
• Ability to work unsupervised
• Ability to demonstrate clinical knowledge and competence within scope of clinical practice.
• Previous experience of working in health care

Desirable

• Recent clinical experience in community nursing
• Experience of multidisciplinary team working

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Competent IT skills
• Effective organisation and time management skills
• Excellent record keeping skills
• Ability to positively support and educate staff, patients and their carers
