Job summary
East Coast Community Healtcare C.I.C. Estates and facilities department are currently looking for a Kitchen team assistant to join the small team providing catering services to Beccles Hospital,ward. A vital role which assists with patient care.
The role covers a two week rota, working specific days and shifts. Five shifts over a two week period which breaks down to 16.5 hours a week. The post is paid at NHS Band 2, pro rata. Holiday and sickness are covered within the NHS terms and conditions to which ECCH are aligned.
The role in general involves lone working in a small kitchen helping in the provision of providing 3 meals a day, regenerating patient meals and sandwiches, providing drinks when requested.
You will also be responsible for cleaning all areas of the kitchen work area and at times the dining room.
Main duties of the job
Working to the government and NHS health and hygiene regulations to Provide patient food and drink at set times.
Working to set time frames.
Using a food regeneration system.
Keeping all records.
Ensuring all records are updated for governance compliance.
Carrying out stock checks.
Ordering kitchen supplies, food and cleaning products.
At times providing food and drink adhoc upon request.
Washing up.
Fault reporting.
Opportunity at times for covering vacant shifts when other team members are on holiday of off at short notice.

- Complying with Policy and instruction regarding NHS and Food standards agency protocols.
- Reporting to the hotel services team lead.
- Primarily working within a kitchen in a busy ward area.
- Responsible for prioritising and organising your own working routine encompassing your required duties.
- Checking kitchen cleanliness before starting your shift.
Clean all touch points and kitchen areas at the end of each shift.
Catering
- Ensure that patient meals and drinks are prepared correctly and delivered on time to the ward level point of nursing staff service delivery.
- All food and beverages are to be delivered to the delivery point for nursing staff to then distribute to patients
- The regeneration -cooking of chilled/ frozen meals at Ward level, ensuring procedures are followed with regard to safety and the cooking cycle and service of breakfast, lunch and supper to patients.
- Prepare sandwiches and salads as required.
- Ensure that Food Safety and food temperature regulations are adhered to and all required paperwork is completed.
- Carry out other catering procedures including, setting of tables (accounting for all cutlery), clearing of tables / servery, loading & unloading of ward and kitchen dishwasher etc.
- Checking stock levels and control.
- Placing order requests Every Sunday/Monday for all food and equipment with the team lead by
- 08.30 every Monday morning.
- Ensuring stock rotation is carried out when receiving, putting stock away.
- Recording fridge temperatures and fridge usage.
- Recording delivered food temperature prior to hand over.
- Ensure the kitchen unit is clean and tidy, including all kitchen equipment, crockery, cutlery and utensils.
- Make patient beverages (on average 5 beverage rounds delivered throughout the day to nursing staff for checking and onward delivery to patients.
- In extreme circumstance and only under the direction of the senior clinical nurse in charge you may be requested to assist nursing staff, during staff shortages with the feeding of patients. In these circumstances each individual meal and drink delivery is to be under direct nursing supervision.
- Maintaining your required mandatory training requirements for compliance.
- Use electronic systems provided for reporting, learning and compliance.
