Continence Healthcare Assistant

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arose for a healthcare assistant to join the Continence Nursing Team. We are a friendly, small team working across the East Coast community Healthcare area and your base will be at Kirkley Mill Health Centre.

The successful candidate will be motivated, caring, have good communication skills and have a keen interest in continence care. A level 3 qualification or equivalent in Health and Social Care and evidence of working in the sector is essential. Further role specific training will be offered to the successful candidate.

The Continence Team promotes continence, assesses assessed patients with continence issues, advises on treatment and management options. Your role will be key to supporting this.

Patients are seen in the clinic setting, in the community and in care homes. You will be expected to liaise closely with carers and other health professionals. The team also delivers education and so candidates must be prepared to take part in this.

A full induction programme will be designed with the successful individual and you will be well supported in your new role.

Main duties of the job

Support the continence team to provide continence promotion, treatment strategies and management options to patients with continence problems. This will be delivered through carrying out continence reassessments in the community, care home, clinic and community hospital setting.

Develop and maintain close links with other professionals.

Support providing education to others regarding continence care. This will be achieved through clinical practice, delivering teaching and providing advice and support.

The Continence Team is a small friendly team of 8 nurses and healthcare assistants. We have a passion for continence care and want to improve the lives of the patients we meet. We are part of a wider continence network; meeting regularly with the urology nurses, continence physios, children's continence nurses and urology/urogynae consultants.

Maintain all items of equipment issued to assist in the care of patients including uniform and car in a clean and tidy condition, reporting faults and deficiencies promptly and ensuring that repairs are carried out.

Ensure the accurate completion of records, care plans and patient registers within agreed Organisational standards.

Submit all personal claim forms.

EDUCATIONAL ROLE

Demonstrate a positive attitude to education and participate in continuing professional development in accordance with the organisations policy.

Act as a role model for health care professionals and students/learners providing advice and support.

Participate in teaching in the clinical setting and group teaching.

Participate in staff induction programme.

Participate in multi-agency work/training.

Initiate and maintain resource files using evidence-based information.

Attend in-service training courses and study sessions as required.

To participate in the training of learners by demonstrating procedures

Taking part in clinical supervision sessions.
