Job responsibilities
The post-holder will be responsible for the collation, analysis, presentation
of focused information to support the organisations contractual requirements
and operational needs.
The post-holder will
have access to a large amount of patient identifiable information. It is a
requirement of the post-holder that they treat all of this information in
accordance with the Information Governance policy of the organisation.
The post-holder will
have the skills and experience to develop analysis to support operational
performance management and inform decision making for the organisations medium
and long term planning process and strategy development.
The post-holder will be
expected to work with the services and contracts leads in order to deliver on
contractual reporting requirements.
The post holder will
work closely with business intelligence colleagues, the business change team,
system configuration team, service managers, Executive members, clinicians and
commissioning groups.
The post-holder will be
expected to keep expenses for travel within an agreed individual cap. With the
help of the Business Intelligence Team Leader, write business cases for any
training required for professional development/travel that would exceed this
cap.
In particular, the
post-holder will be expected to:
o Scope, design, develop and
maintain interactive dashboards in conjunction with service leads and dashboard
users.
o Automate KPI extraction and
make KPIs visible to services wherever possible.
o Take responsibility for
designing, completing and documenting new reports.
o Complete contractual
reporting tasks (running of reports, coordinating commentary and responses) to
strict commissioning deadlines.
o Produce thorough
documentation for all work completed be it in the form of formal
documentation or well-commented code.
o Keep issue management &
work planning system up to date, creating issues when work is requested and
flagging its urgency during sprint planning. Fully engage with the agile
management methodology that the team works in. Keep commentary on issues clear
and contemporaneous such that tasks can be picked up, understood and adopted by
other team members where necessary.
o Manage their time to deliver
a variety of tasks within agreed timescales.
o Promote the use of business
intelligence across the organization through presentations, demos, and/or
informal advocacy.
o Utilize the data warehouse
for standard queries, find and support the resolution of issues with data
entering the data warehouse where there appear to be discrepancies with what is
recorded in the front end of the system.
o Compile reports to a high
standard, following documentation and creating clear guidance as to what data
is being reported.
o Create new
reports/dashboards when required due to contract changes or
operational/strategic priorities.
o Identify new opportunities
across the organization for enhancing BI.
o Liaise with the system
configuration team to understand where data is recorded through the front end
of the system and translate this into locating that data in the data warehouse.
o Advise on and test the
reporting capability of new configurations of systems.
o Provide specialist BI advice
to other members of staff, managers and directors. Guide other staff members in
recognizing, realizing and honing their BI requirements and translate these into
deliverable products.
o Respond positively to
challenges in the way that data is collected and reported. Work with service
leads and contracts to improve understanding of measures and the quality of
data.
o Provide advice and guidance
to the contracts team, commissioners and service leads on development of KPIs
and reporting on contract performance. Be responsive to contractual changes and
make changes to reporting as required as a result of these.
o Be the BI representative and
lead on the project team for discrete projects, as requested by the Business
Intelligence Team Leader
o Review data collected to
identify any inconsistencies and assist the service in validating potential
errors / anomalies to ensure information reported is both complete and
accurate.
o Ensure that data provision
is both timely and accurate and that all internal and external reporting
deadlines are met.
o To obtain authorization for
the external submission of reports from the named Senior Manager(s), as
appropriate. Ensure that external reports are ready for review by senior
management within the agreed timescales.
o Support all elements of the
BI strategy & organizational strategy.
o Provide general training on
information as required.
o Engage with the Business
Intelligence Team Leader in making appropriate contributions to the BI Strategy
and other departmental documents.
o Develop, monitor and support
the data warehouse. Investigate data warehouse discrepancies and act upon
incorrect data integration into the data warehouse, supporting the Business
Intelligence Team Leader in amending processes and ETL routines where
appropriate.
o Investigate national
mandatory submissions, including designing, documenting and embedding processes
for making the submissions and liaising with the relevant services.
o Represent ECCH in
communications with national bodies to organize mandatory submissions.
o Coordinate the configuration
and IT teams in providing the necessary technical
o requirements to make mandatory
submissions possible.
o Deputize for the Business
Intelligence Team Leader when required (may include but not limited to core
commissioner meetings, induction presentations, presenting BI to the wider
business and/or external organizations.)
o Work with external experts
and contractors at the request of the Business Intelligence Team Leader (e.g.
contractors, commissioners or any other external organisations).
The role does not involve the development and configuration of
SystmOne. The postholder is however expected to have/develop background
knowledge of SystmOne, or other clinical system adopted by ECCH, to enhance
their ability to work with the configuration team/services in order to state
clear BI requirements for configuration.
