Job summary

Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship - 3 year programme, commencing January 2026.

The Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship is a 3 year program, working toward becoming a Occupational Therapist. You will study for a BSc (Hons) degree, HCPC registered and gain a RCOT-accredited qualification.

As a Occupational Therapy Apprentice you will be a paid employee with ECCH and based in one area where you will experience working across both internal and external placements to gain experience, knowledge and appreciation of the different areas across the local healthcare service. You will complete 1,000 hours of placements during your apprenticeship. These placements are an essential part of your learning. It will give you the experience you need to qualify and thrive in your future career. They count towards your off-the-job training and are fully included in your training plan.

Main duties of the job

To work under the overall supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist to provide a person centred service to a defined caseload of patients with complex needs.

To support the Occupational Therapist in the implementation of intervention plans aimed at helping patients to maintain and regain independence in functional abilities and promoting patient safety through the participation in everyday occupation.

To complete the Occupational Therapy degree level apprenticeship and gain full registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) on qualifying.

Under supervision identify and select, with the client, appropriate intervention options which balance the interaction of risk, safety, user choice and independence.

To seek supervision from a senior occupational therapist to inform analysis and reasoning, when more complex needs became apparent.

To maintain accurate and up to date documentation consistent with legal and organisational requirements.

To progress the intervention to a satisfactory closure, evaluating outcomes with the responsible occupational therapist.

To actively participate in supervision and appraisal using reflection and analysis to inform practice.

To actively participate in learning opportunities relevant to the occupational therapy degree apprenticeship.

To meet the academic and clinical requirements of the occupational therapy degree apprenticeship programme as defined both by the university and the organisation.

To participate in the general upkeep of the work area to maintain a safe and tidy environment.

To maintain and develop skills and knowledge, in order to be conversant with service developments, as required for Continuing Professional Development.

To participate in staff and service development through attendance at service meetings and in-service training sessions where appropriate.

To ensure that services are provided in accordance with the organisations standards, procedures and objectives of quality assurance, and that they are consistent with best practice.

To contribute to the evaluation of the service through use of audit, outcome measures and where appropriate support in the implementation of these.

To undertake any other appropriate additional duties, as required by the Lead for Occupational Therapy Services.

  • Have not studied a qualifying physiotherapy course before
  • You will be contracted to work a minimum of 30 hours per week
  • Evidence of IT skills, problem solving, and interpersonal skills development
  • Existing experience and/or are prepared to be working alongside a Occupational Therapist
  • Experience of working in health and therapy teams/working with people
  • Experience of working as a therapy or rehabilitation assistant
  • Clear understanding of therapy role/concepts of therapy and the enabling approach

Qualifications

  • GCSE. It is essential for all applicants to hold a minimum of two GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade C (4) or an equivalent level 2 functional skill qualification in Maths and English.
  • Evidence of 3 A levels to include biology or human biology, or an equivalent access qualification in a relevant field (each case will be considered individually). The Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship will be considered as an alternative entry requirement
  • Care Certificate

Desirable

  • Previous degree in a relevant subject.
  • Evidence of recent study.

  • Problem solving skills/inter-personal skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills/basic IT skills
  • Able to work independently and use own initiative
  • Good level of general health and physical fitness in order to practice manual handling techniques with patients
  • Team worker/confident/able to recognise self-limitations.
  • Role requires the ability to travel within the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area. Should hold a full current driving licence or be able to make own travelling arrangements to fulfil the duties of the post, including visits to patients homes with and without patients, delivery of equipment etc.
