Occupational Therapist - ESD for Stroke - Band 5/6 Development Post

Job summary
Full time, permanent position, 37.5 hours per week. This is a new Band 5-6 OT post, with an opportunity 12 month development role, to join our Stroke ESD Service. During the transition period up to and including 12 months from your start date, you will commence a development plan, including Stroke Specific training, competencies and mentorship. Following successful completion of the required training and fulfilling the full competencies you will progress to the band 6 role.
We work closely with acute stroke services and our neurology community colleagues, to provide continuity of care across the stroke pathway, support safe discharges and facilitate rehabilitation in patients' places of residence. We provide a holistic approach to rehabilitation promoting recovery and well-being, whilst empowering patients to self-manage and maximise their independence using health coaching techniques and functional activity. You will have the opportunity to utilise your OT skills to the full conducting assessments and devising patient goal centred rehabilitation programmes, provide education, emotional and carer support. We are looking for a qualified OT with post-graduate experience working with stroke patients, manage their own caseloads, collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and partner organisations. The team includes OT's, physio's, a speech and language therapist and therapy AP's. If you are a passionate OT who would like to be part of our team please apply.
Main duties of the job
> To promote recovery and well-being, whilst empowering patients to self-manage and maximise their independence using health coaching techniques and meaningful activity.
>To be responsible for delivering OT in the assessment and treatment of stroke patients, some of which may have complex and/or chronic presentation.
> To collaborate with other services to support the stroke pathway.
> To assist with teaching and supervision of other team members and students.
> To assist evaluation of the ESD service and to be actively involved with service development within the specialty and to implement changes in stroke services delivery as required.
If the competencies of the role are not met by the end of the 12 month period, consideration will be given to extending this by a further 6 months, during which time you will remain as a band 5. Where the development plan has been extended, if the required competencies are not met, the post will be reviewed and consideration given to rebanding the role permanently as a band 5. As the post will no longer be deemed a development role, Annex 21 will no longer apply and your salary will be amended accordingly to the step that you would have been on within the band 5 scale had you not undertaken the development role. Your increment date will remain the same.
