Our Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service are a supportive and friendly team who work across the community of Bromley providing a service to patients in their own homes, care homes, remotely and in outpatient clinics.

You will be joining our service at an exciting time as we have recently launchedour FEES service and . Successful candidates will have the opportunity to be involved in this service including referring into and assisting with assessments, with support from leads to sign off competencies.

Bank working brings many of the advantages of being a permanent staff member but with the added flexibility.

We have an established staff bank at Bromley Healthcare and our service leads and current SLT bank staff members across Bands 5-7 would be happy to discuss their experience of working in adult SLT with prospective candidates to highlight just how positive their experience has been.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have the opportunity to provide SLT input into our varied caseloads based on their skills, experience and interests.

You will need to have relevant experience in independently managing adults in at least one of the following caseloads:

  • swallowing impairments
  • voice disorders
  • triage

You will receive regular clinical supervision, and support through team meetings and clinical forums as appropriate. Evidence of appropriate qualifications and membership is essential. A car driver with access to a car is desirable but as a digitally competent and flexible organisation we are able to offer remote working opportunities at a level not previously possible.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Speech & Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent.
  • Health Professions Council Licence to practice.
  • Completed RCSLT Newly qualified SLT competencies
  • Evidence of CPD

Desirable

  • other relevant courses and qualifications

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working clinically as an SLT. Evidence of independent caseload management.
  • Experience working as an SLT with adults who have neurological conditions
  • Experience of working with other professionals relevant to patient groups.

Desirable

  • Experience of supporting patients with AAC provision
  • Experience of participating in audit and service improvement projects
  • Experience of managing a voice caseload

Skills

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate a high level of competence in the management of communication patients.
  • To be able to independently assess and manage patients with dysphagia.
  • To be competent in handling the emotional and psychosocial aspects of working with a complex SLT caseload in the community
  • Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
  • Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions for dysphagia and communication and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits.

  • Full UK driver's license / Car driver with access to a car for work purposes
