Bank Diabetes Lay Educator - Band 3
£27,129 - £28,649 Inc HCAS Per annum pro rata
The Diabetes service deliver's patient education courses for people identified as having pre-diabetes "Walking away from Diabetes" (WAFD) and people newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes "Diabetes Education and Self-Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed Diabetes Education and Self-Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed (DESMOND). These are group courses delivered by 2 educators, both virtually and face-to-face.
Main duties of the job
Training as a DESMOND/WAFD Educator will include support and guidance through the award-winning DESMOND training program and quality assurance pathway, as well as the newly launched DESMOND Academy including monthly Guest Speaker workshops, and much more!
There is no time like to present to train as a Lay Educator. Being a DESMOND/WAFD Educator can be great for the CV and extremely rewarding. Previous knowledge and or training in diabetes is not required.
This is an exciting opportunity to train, develop and join the Bromley diabetes team of educators as a Bank Lay educator. You will be required to attend a 3 day virtual training course and commit to offering a minimum of 1 day every 2 weeks as a bank Lay educator.
The courses are currently available during the week but there may be future availability to provide sessions at weekends.

- To follow the prescribed training programme for DESMOND/WAFD Educators (non-HCP), which will include:

- Observing a local DESMOND/WAFD education course
- Attending 3 separate days of training organised by the DESMOND National Programme which may involve travel in order to attend
- Committing to a mentorship programme delivered locally by an assigned mentor (an experienced and accredited healthcare professional DESMOND Educator)
- Using the development work book and other resources to support ongoing development as a DESMOND/WAFD Educator
- To deliver the DESMOND Newly Diagnosed & Foundation modules and Walking Away from Diabetes (WAFD) together with an accredited healthcare professional DESMOND Educator.
- To work as part of a team to effectively deliver the DESMOND ND/F modules according to the curriculum and using the appropriate resources.
- To ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- To participate in personal development and reflection through giving and receiving feedback on performance as an Educator.
- To be prepared to study in own time (e.g. using development work book, curriculum and training materials and preparing for sessions).
- To carry out self evaluation after delivery of every DESMOND/WAFD education course.
- To participate in the DESMOND Training and Quality Development Framework.
