Job summary
We are delighted to offer an
opportunity for an inspiring, dedicated, and enthusiastic Specialist in
Oral Surgery ( CDS Band C ) to join our team at Plymouth Community Dental Services
(PCDS) which is part of Livewell Southwest (LSW).
This is a fixed term position until 31st March 2026 for up to 3 days per week.
You will join an established oral surgery team which includes 2 other registered specialists and other senior dentists with a special interest in oral surgery. You will also work alongside other specialities as part of a comprehensive community dental service.
Your role will consist of assessing and treating patients referred in for advanced oral surgery procedures, both under local anaesthetic and conscious sedation.
You must hold a recognised
dentist qualification, be registered with the GDC and listed as a specialist in Oral Surgery and hold a performer number on the NHS Performers List for
England. Applications will be considered within 6 months of successful completion
of Specialist Training (CCST) at interview.
You should be confident, able to work under pressure,
able to communicate well with staff and work as part of a team with band A and
band B dentists, dental therapists and dental nurses.
Main duties of the job
The post holder
will provide specialist led comprehensive treatment for oral surgery patients (based
on treatment on referral) assessed as level 2 or level 3 complexity and also
oral surgery treatment for patients with special needs (including medically
compromised). This may include dental care under sedation or treatment under
general anaesthesia.
On occasion you will also
be required to offer urgent care for those members of the community who have
been unable to access treatment with an NHS general dental practitioner as
required by the service.

PCDS is a specialist lead
service providing the full range of community dentistry to priority groups
including routine and emergency care.
This role will also support
the training and development of dentists in early years training and supporting other clinical members of the team on an ad-hoc basis.

Be
part of PCDS teaching/training programme of Medical and Dental students.
Support
the services provision of Urgent care Dentistry when required.
Provide
services on more than one site as dictated by service requirements.
Take
part in personal development and appraisal.
Undertake
appropriate Continuing Professional Development relevant to the requirements of
the service.
Recognise
and assist with management of medical emergencies within the dental surgery.
Have
a comprehensive knowledge of service emergency drugs protocol and competence
for use in medical emergencies.
Complete
ILS and PILS training
