Bank Dentist (Casual)- Weekday Evenings

The closing date is 31 December 2025

Job summary

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to join our clinical team on a casual (Bank) arrangement. Plymouth Community Dental Services (PCDS) is one of the largest specialist led NHS dental providers in Plymouth, delivering high-quality care to patients who are unable to access treatment through a general dental practice. Our multidisciplinary team work together to provide compassionate, patient-focused care. We are a major provider of unscheduled dental care within Plymouth and provide a helpline service as well as appointments for patients meeting the criteria for unscheduled dental care. To strengthen this commitment to the community we are seeking experienced dentists to work with us on a casual basis to cover unscheduled care sessions, mostly during weekday evenings. This is a great opportunity to make a real difference to your community and can fit around other commitments. Successful candidates will join a bank of like-minded clinicians able to volunteer their availability on a monthly basis to cover posted sessions. There will be no minimum or maximum number of sessions that you will be expected to fulfil. We offer modern dental surgeries and generous appointment times (40mins). All indemnity will be covered by PCDS and we have a strong and supportive team of oral surgery, special care and paediatric specialists, should you need advice or for any patients to be followed up within working hours.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide a full range of dental care expected within an NHS unscheduled care appointment. This will include adults and children presenting with an urgent dental issue . All necessary care to address the presenting complaint should in most circumstances be provided within a single appointment, or where this is not possible, to arrange an appropriate referral or pathway for them to receive the appropriate treatment.

You will be given paid time to complete any administrative tasks at the end of the session, which also helps to ensure a timely finish.

You will need to work closely and collaboratively with nursing and administrative staff and may be required to assist with closing down and building security when working outside of core PCDS hours.

Successful applicants will be expected to provide evidence of, or asked to complete relevant mandatory training relevant to the role in order to remain compliant to remain active on the bank. You will need to complete this outside of any allocated sessions.

Sessions will be paid generously on an hourly basis and will not be linked to UDAs. Sessions will generally run from 18:00-21:00 on weekday evenings, but there may on occasions be flexibility to suit individual circumstances.

Paid induction and orientation training will be given to successful clinicans joining our bank.
