We
are delighted to offer an opportunity for an inspiring, dedicated and
enthusiastic registered specialist in Paediatric Dentistry to join Plymouth
Community Dental Service, part of Livewell Southwest (LSW). LSW is an award-winning provider of NHS services in Plymouth & the
surrounding community in South Hams & West Devon.
This Specialist Lead Salaried Dental Service
offers a wide range of services including comprehensive dentistry
for adults & children with special needs, oral surgery, dentistry for children, phobic care, & urgent care for non-registered
patients.
We are looking for Specialist in Paediatrics to work as part of our
multi-disciplined dental team focusing on providing specialist, comprehensive & continuing preventative dental care for paediatrics whose dental needs cannot
be fulfilled in General Dental Practice. This will include under conscious sedation/General Anaesthesia.
The post holder will work alongside another Paediatric Specialist & together contribute to the development of the paediatric service, ensuring
adherence to NHS paediatric commissioning standards.
You
should have established skills in paediatric dentistry & be confident, able
to work under pressure & have the ability to communicate with staff at all
levels.
Candidates
must hold a recognised dentist qualification, be GDC registered & hold a
performer number. You must be registered on the GDC Specialist
list as a Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry (or within the next 6 months).
Main duties of the job
This position will undertake clinical activity for paediatric
patients registered with the service, focussing on ASA 3a patients, but could
also include ASA 2 case mix. This will
include treatment under sedation or general anaesthetic where appropriate.
The post holder will work alongside the other Specialist in
Paediatrics and together lead on the paediatric provision of the service,
working alongside the other specialists and management team within PCDS.
The post holder will
attend the Paediatric MCN meetings and ensure the service is compliant with up-to-date
paediatric commissioning guidelines and undertake the triaging of paediatric
referrals received by the service. The
post holder will also support with training and development of Band B dentists
interested in paediatrics.
The post
is governed by Salaried Primary Dental Care Services Terms and Conditions of
Service.

Hold GDC registration and professional indemnity at an appropriate level of cover.
Offer a full range of treatment for children whose special needs L2/3 have prevented them from accessing dental care through the General Dental Service.
Provide treatment under IV and/or RA sedation when appropriate
Undertake Treatment carried out under General Anaesthetic in a hospital.
To
maintain up to date knowledge and skills on clinical techniques and their
application to patient dental care.
Oversee CDS Exodontia GA Lists
Triage paediatric Special Care referrals
To support other clinicians within Plymouth CDS in providing paediatric dentistry
To be responsible for Band B paediatric dentists appraisals
Provide professional advice and support to other health care workers.
Liaise with other dental care providers including within the GDS and Hospital services.
Undertake Administration associated with these duties including completion of appropriate NHS forms and referrals.
Work alongside Clinical Lead and Service Manager to develop paediatric dental services within the service and wider Southwest.
Be a member of paediatric MCN
Be part of PCDS teaching/training programme of Medical and Dental students.
Support the services provision of Urgent care Dentistry.
Provide services on more than one site as dictated by service requirements.
Take part in personal development and appraisal.
Take part in clinical audit, peer review and any other clinical governance requirements.
Undertake appropriate Continuing Professional Development relevant to the requirements of the service.
Complete ILS and PILS training
This post involves working with children and vulnerable adults and will require a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
