Job summary

Up to 37.5 hours per week. Livewell Southwest is looking for a motivated and forward-thinking Physiotherapist to join our 6 monthly rotational scheme in a variety of settings across Plymouth. This post would suit a newly qualified physio (to benefit from our preceptorship programme) or an experienced Band 5 looking to broaden their experience. The rotation is integrated with our neighbouring organisation, University Hospitals Plymouth, to provide both acute and community rotations, making the rotation a fantastic opportunity to gain a wide ranging experience of Physiotherapy services.

Fixed term contract for 12 month for up to 37.5 hours per week

At the time of this specific vacancy being advertised, this role is not permitted for sponsorship under the skilled worker route, because of the ongoing rotational service that is provided to a third party.

All Livewell Southwest staff are expected to able and willing to work across a 7 day service.

Main duties of the job

The posts will enable the successful applicant to gain experience in a range of clinical settings including MSK Outpatients, Urgent care, Neurology (both inpatient and outpatient), Respiratory, Intensive care, Trauma and Orthopaedics and Community Rehabilitation. You will be required to travel independently in a timely manner across Livewell sites and community locations, including the transport of heavy and large equipment, in areas not served by public transport.

The individual will be required to participate in 7 day, evening and bank holiday working.

In all these areas you will be supported by experienced clinicians who are specialists in their field.

These posts will develop your clinical skills within a variety of settings and participate in current service developments. Key clinical elements of the posts include: assessment and treatment, working jointly with Occupational Therapists and other Health and Social Care Professionals. There are many opportunities to develop further clinical and managerial skills within Livewell Southwest. We provide support through regular line management and practice supervision, as well as provision of in-service training.

To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

To supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students and Therapy support staff. This would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.

To participate in 7 day and Bank Holiday working rota and extended hours (e.g., evenings til 8pm) when required.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibility for People Management

To be an active member of the in-service training programme by attendance at and participation in, in-service training programmes, tutorials, individual training sessions, external courses and peer review. This will include teaching and contributing to planning training when appropriate.

To be actively involved in professional clinical groups, such as Journal Clubs, CSP Clinical Interest Groups, Peer Review Groups and other professional development activities.

To participate in the staff appraisal scheme as an appraiser, when qualified to do so.

To attend Student educator training and actively support student placements within the team.

To ensure that your own practice and that of staff under your supervision meets the required professional standards of physiotherapy practice.

To be responsible for the supervision and co-ordination of students and assistants on a daily basis.

To provide clinical education and training to physiotherapy students to graduate level. Provide support, guidance and training to assistants, including assessing and evaluating competence.

To train, supervise and performance manage support staff and students, with assistance from more specialist members of the physiotherapy team. This will include the use of formal appraisal documentation.

To take a flexible approach to supporting colleagues in times of caseload pressure, including working with colleagues to maintain clinical cover across the team within the resources available.

To provide planned and spontaneous specialist advice and teaching to relatives, carers and other professions and agencies involved in the patients care.

Responsibility for financial and/or physical resources.

To follow policy and guidance around the security, useability, decontamination, and maintenance of assessment equipment utilised in the clinical setting.

To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all gym equipment, electrotherapy equipment and patient appliances and aids used by patients. Ensure that support staff attain competency prior to use of equipment.

To ensure New and replacement equipment is not used by self or staff until it has been commissioned in accordance with Livewell Southwest policy. Defective equipment is reported and made safe without delay in accordance with Livewell Southwest procedures.

On the rare occasion you may handle patient valuables as part of a home visit or community assessment, that you follow Livewell SWs policy Cash & Cheque Handling Procedures, section 6 Patient Money, section 7 Patient Travel.

To participate in the staff appraisal scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with your agreed personal development programmes to meet set knowledge and competencies.

To actively engage in caseload supervision with line manager:

All staff are required to ensure knowledge regarding health and social care legislation is up to date. Namely, the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) at a level deemed essential for their role.

The level of training required, and subsequent assessment tools used to apply legislation, will be role dependent. It is important that staff understand and comply with local policies and procedures relating to the MCA to ensure Livewell Southwest can act in an individuals best interest when providing care. This helps to ensure ongoing adherence to our legal obligations and ensuring we put the needs of our patients first.
