Job summary
Podiatry Healthcare Assistant, 30 hours per week - An extremely varied and enjoyable role
with opportunities to work across a wide range of clinical settings supporting
Podiatrists to deliver foot and related lower limb care. The service works
across the Plymouth and South Hams & West Devon areas. You will receive any
necessary training in-house for Podiatry skills and knowledge related to the
job.
The role will combine both clinical & clerical duties
you will work in community clinics, hospital settings and on a domiciliary
basis in patients homes alongside general and specialist practitioners
including the fields of diabetes, musculoskeletal care, and minor surgery.
Clerical tasks will include the support of clinical audit, stock distribution
and clinical related needs.
Podiatry HCAs will experience the full range of care offered
by the service, dealing with a diverse group of patients from children and
young people through to our older population. Our HCAs will experience working
with foot and lower limb wounds, patients with general care needs and those
undergoing minor surgical procedures as well as supporting our Musculoskeletal
service. Rotational placement may be included in the role and staff will be
required to have the ability to drive daily.

Main duties of the job
The role ideally suits a person who enjoys a varied role
with an emphasis on patient centred care who enjoys working with a variety of
patient groups.
This varied role will include working with the Podiatrists
and other assistant staff to support the care of patients:
with diabetes and other conditions which cause foot ulcers
and other serious foot health problems
undergoing minor surgery procedures in which youll provide
hands-on assistance
having care in their homes, for foot wounds and other needs
receiving general Podiatric care
with a wide range of foot and lower limb conditions, helping
to improve their quality of life and well-being
You will also undertake a wide range of supportive admin
tasks including but not limited to:
stock distribution
ordering and distributing footwear and orthotic orders
distributing written patient materials
organising consent forms
audits

Job responsibilities
To provide assistance to the registered and non-registered
clinical staff of Podiatry Services in all service settings including but not
exhaustively, Derriford Hospital clinics and wards, community clinics, minor
surgery and domiciliary care. This will be across all service sites of
activity.
To provide clinical care including basic wound dressings,
compression bandaging and nail care delegated by registered staff, and
assisting clinicians by undertaking care tasks such as the preparation of
clinical areas, procedures associated with minor surgery and other designated
monitoring or treatment procedures. This will be across general care clinics,
minor surgery sessions, and specialist care aspects of service including
musculoskeletal (MSK) and diabetes care.
To provide assistance to patients as required, including
basic patient mobility, support and assistance with removing footwear,
dressings and devices as directed. Also, to undertake basic patient
observations and interventions as required and directed by registered clinical
staff.
To carry out a range of specific clinical assistant and
administrative functions in direct support of the clinical and clerical staff
ensuring the smooth running of patient treatment and clinics; including
reception cover, stock management and distribution, administration (including
the printing and preparation of paperwork), and audit facilitation.
The post holder will need to travel and attend to service
users based across Plymouth and other geographical areas. Full and valid
driving licence and access to a car for work purposes is required. Reasonable
adjustments under the Equality Act will be taken into account for the
