Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced mental
health professional to be part of a dynamic team with a focus on how we can do
things differently to improve mental health support for adults experiencing
multiple disadvantage. This includes combinations of homelessness, substance
misuse, mental health challenges, domestic abuse and contact with the criminal
justice system. People experiencing these challenges are often disadvantaged by
the way systems and services are set up.
Based in the Complex Needs Team at Livewell, the post holder
will lead a pilot which will test and learn the Plymouth three lens model (for
more information about this model, please see https://traumainformedplymouth.org/). This model brings together different ways of
understanding mental health challenges and their origins through three
approaches: strengths-based, trauma informed, and diagnostic.
The model aims to create a balance between the currently more dominant medical
model, and other important approaches which acknowledge peoples experiences,
adversity, power imbalances and strengths.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work with teams to provide upskilling, support and supervision to enhance knowledge and awareness of these approaches, and utilise them when working with emotional distress in a person-centred way. They will work with a team at the Probation Service based in Plymouth, and teams across The Harbour Centre, including the Complex Needs Team. This role has developed following conversations with people
working across sectors and people with lived experience. Collaborators were
brought together by a drive to explore ways to enhance how practitioners,
services and systems respond to and support people experiencing emotional
distress from a trauma-informed and strengths-based perspective. The team test and learn from different ways of working with people
experiencing multiple disadvantages, to support long-term system and culture
change. The post holder will be part of this team and support complementary
pieces of work, such as developing reflective practice opportunities in the
city and workforce development, as learning from the three-lens model emerges.Applications are welcomed from people with strong experience
and knowledge of using trauma-informed, solution-focussed and diagnostic
approaches with people experiencing mental health challenges; and keen to
explore different ways of working to improve outcomes for people and support
teams working with daily challenge.
