An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Psychologist to join our Psychiatric Liaison Service at Livewell. 37.5 hours per week, Monday- Friday, 9am to 5pm.The successful applicant will be based at Derriford Hospital, supporting in delivering assessments, evidence-based interventions, leadership and support for the wider team, to include education. The service continues to develop into a dynamic, forward thinking team to support people who often present in crisis. Presentations to the team would include; self-harm and suicidality, difficulties with eating, unusual experiences and psychosis as well as emotional difficulties. The team also provide support to those presenting with cognitive difficulties (such as dementia or brain injury).
We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist who is able to demonstrate a forward-thinking approach, able to work to continue raising team standards and provide excellent assessment and intervention for the people we see. Collaboration across a range of services will be essential as we continue to build ways to interface with other teams.
Main duties of the job
Livewell serves a population of approximately 280,000 people living in the Plymouth area. This is a new post, developed as part of our Psychiatric Liaison Service. The service provides direct and indirect support to inpatients of the Derriford Hospital physical health wards, who are experiencing difficulties with their mental health. Presentations the team work with include; self-harm and suicidality, difficulties with eating, unusual experiences and psychosis as well as emotional difficulties (such as anxiety, depression and dysregulation). The team also provide support to those presenting with cognitive difficulties (such as dementia or brain injury).
As well as carrying an appropriate clinical case load, the post holder will be a major contributor to service development (including the development of Psychiatric Liaison staffs clinical skills), research projects and the building of sound links with relevant agencies in the wider community eg IAPT (Plymouth Options),VCSE, CMHT.
The psychology provision within the service is limited and part of the role will be to ensure that psychology time is used as efficiently and effectively as possible, looking to increase the psychological skills of the wider MDT staff and increase psychology provision through providing appropriately supervised placements for Trainee Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Associate Psychologists, Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioners and undergraduate psychology students.
