37.5 hours per week. An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Plymouth Public Health Nursing Service as the designated Infant Feeding Lead.
The post holder will provide strategic leadership for specialist infant feeding and healthy weight initiatives within Plymouth. The key focus of the role will be to lead the development and implementation of Infant Feeding policies within LSW, including the maintenance of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) accreditation,
The post holder will work closely with Commissioners, Midwifery, Public Health Nursing, Family Hubs, Children's Social Care and GPs to ensure a consistent message and approach to infant feeding and support development of Infant Feeding policies across the community.
The post holder will also lead on the provision of specialist breast feeding support to women with complex breast-feeding needs and be competent to advise senior decision makers about this area of expertise. They will also need to tailor these messages for delivery to all members of the community, including those in under-served communities.
Main duties of the job
To contribute to the infant feeding agenda across the Plymouth community, demonstrating management and leadership qualities and skills.
Acquire and maintain UNICEF BFI accreditation for LSW and support this across the community.
Develop, implement, and monitor an education programme in line with UNICEF BFI principles as well as Department of Health (DOH) and National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance.
Interpret national guidelines, policy and procedures relating to infant feeding and incorporate these into local plans.
Value differences and individuality, showing respect to all when supporting women and colleagues with infant feeding.
Encourage and develop colleagues to make effective, decisions in partnership with families,
Maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders particularly around all aspects of infant feeding.
Contribute towards the ongoing development of the Plymouth Best Start for Life/Family Hub programme, ensuring safe and high-quality services with processes in place for continuous improvement.
Supervise staff regarding the implementation and management of the faltering growth policy.
