37.5 hours per week. An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 7 Liaison Psychiatry Team Manager to join our expanding Liaison Psychiatry
Service at Livewell SouthWest. The team is based in Derriford Hospital
(University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust) and provides a service to the 18+ age
group.
We would welcome applications from experienced Mental Health
Professionals including Nurses, OTs, Physiotherapists and Social Workers who
have an extensive history in mental health settings, particularly those of a
crisis nature. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and willing to
effect change in this fast-paced environment and developing team. You will be
familiar with working in a challenging environment and possess the ability to
balance different pressures. Evidence of transferable skills is essential.
Liaison Psychiatry provides specialist assessment
and advises around management of people in the acute hospital who are
experiencing co-existing physical and mental health difficulties or attend in
mental health crisis.
The multi-disciplinary team several Consultant Psychiatrist
posts, Band 5 & 6 Mental Health Practitioners, a Mental Health support-worker, Nurse Associates, various students regularly and
Medical Secretaries/Administrators.
This role is full-time, working hours would normally be
0830-1630 Mon-Fri however, flexibility will sometimes be required.

Main duties of the job
- The Liaison Psychiatry
Team Manager will ensure that the team provides high quality mental health
services to eligible patients through a multi-disciplinary team of registered
professionals and medical staffing in liaison with colleagues from the Acute
hospital trust. The manager will ensure that services are provided within National,
Local and practice guidelines so that:
- Quality of life
for the people most in need is maintained and improved.
- All services are
provided effectively and efficiently within current national direction and
relevant legislation, to include the protection of vulnerable Adults and
Children.
- The post holder
will have a deep appreciation of the need to promote the service within a
different provider environment, diplomacy and confidence will be key personal
characteristics
- The team manager
will support the team and practice lead in making emergency judgements and
clinical decision.
- Ensure Team Attendance
in meetings, e.g. Child Protection, AdultProtection, Mental Health Review
Tribunals, CPA reviews.
- Ensure team attendance
and participation in various forums/steering groups within Adult Mental Health
and the wider health community e.g. South West Regional Crisis Forum. Be a part
of the Acute Care Pathway.
- Maintain
accurate, timely paper and electronic records. Ensure they are kept safely in
accordance with Organisation policies, including the Data Protection Act and
the Organisation Confidentiality Policy.

assessment to patients presenting to services at Derriford Hospital this
service receives referrals from the whole of the patient population that is
covered by the Derriford hospital.
The Liaison Psychiatry Team Manager will be expected to manage a
team of staff that carry a significant amount of risk in both the decisions
they make and the patients they care for. Therefore, there is an expectation
that this post holder will have a significant amount of experience in both
managing a team and in risk management also. The team is led by a Band 8a
Service Lead and the post holder is supported by two Band 7 Practice Leads. There
are Band 6 and Band 5 Mental Health Practitioners and a Band 3 Support worker
within the team. The team work alongside medical colleagues in delivering this
key service. There are also
administrators and medical secretaries who support the overall function of the
team.
The service is integrated to cover the needs of those with a functional
mental illness and for those with complex care/older person related needs. The main day to day expectation of this role
is to manage a team of professionals responsible for the care of complex
patient group with the support of a multi-disciplinary team.
There is an expectation that the Liaison Psychiatry Team Manager
will be responsible for the management of the service, ensuring that there is
sufficient cover over a 24 hour period, that patient care remains a priority and
that all relevant Liaison psychiatry targets are met. The Team manager will be required to be a
pivotal point of contact within the service and for University Hospitals Trust.
The Team manager will be required to provide support to team clinicians with
regard to referrals/on-going pieces of work that the Liaison Psychiatry are
involved with. The post holder is directly accountable at all times for all
activity within the team.
The Liaison Psychiatry Team Manager will be required to support the
Service Lead to ensure that commissioned aspects of the liaison service are
delivered and that there is equity of access.
The Liaison Psychiatry Team Manager will be responsible for ensuring
any additional requirements for the team is actioned e.g. CQUINs, Winter
pressures actions/short term pilots etc.

promoting quality improvement within the
