Job summary
Based
with the Leg ulcer service and managed by the Tissue Viability Team we are
looking to recruit to the post of Leg Ulcer Clinic support worker on a bank
contract basis.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and conscientious
care support worker to work with the established Leg Ulcer Clinic service in
the provision of wound care to patients. We are a dynamic, developing service
and enthusiastic team providing education, advice, support and clinical care
for patients across Nottingham CityCare Leg Ulcer Clinics.
You will
be working with the leg ulcer nurses working in established leg ulcer clinics across
Nottingham City and developing skills in leg ulcer care, helping and supporting
patients about their condition. You will undertake assisting in the
coordination of clinics for leg ulcer patients. Within the wider service you
will be involved in development of your role and support to other health care
professionals.
The hours of work will be
dependent on shifts that require covering
(Clinics are held Monday and Friday no weekends). The Service hours are
8.30am 5pm or 8am 4.30 pm excluding weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job
You will need experience in providing clinical or social care, a keen interest within the field of wound care, be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills to support patients with a variety of issues.You must be able to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively, also be able to work flexibly within the team and be confident in completing individual tasks.
The candidate will work
alongside a registered nurse in the leg ulcer clinic where patients have first
assessments then the decision for what treatment will be appropriate.
The people who are suitable
for compression bandages then attend the clinic every week or more to have
compression bandages and dressings including a leg wash.
You will be helping during
assessments, preparing clinic the clinic room for the washing and dressing
procedures.
Patients come for the duration
of their treatment and good relationships are developed and this is important
for helping patients understand and continue with the treatment to heal the
wound.
Following healing patients
have a preventative plan to follow which they need to be taught and so patient
education is an important aspect of clinic care.
All training is provided.
Leg Ulcer Clinics are run at Mary Potter Centre, Clifton Cornerstone, Sneinton Heath Centre and Healthpoint at Top Valley. Extra hours are frequently available to cover the leave of other staff in addition to the hours.

- Training sessions, including in-service training to take every reasonable opportunity to develop, improve and maintain clinical skills and knowledge.
- Mentorship of other colleagues as appropriate to the role.
- To deliver wound and skin care with competent application of paste bandages and compression bandages following instructions on the care plan
- To report any concerns during procedures or wound observation to the registered nurse
Administrative Duties
- To provide a service to patients, families and carers attending clinic answering enquiries in a helpful or welcoming manner as required.
- To record client information on System One as appropriate.
- To work with team to facilitate ordering, distribution and maintenance of equipment.
- To work with team to facilitate continued development of a needs-led patient focussed service.
