Job summary

Would you like to join a nationally recognised supportive neurodevelopmental team assisting clinicians to provide assessments for children and young people with suspected AD/HD and Autism. We have a unique service and provide AD/HD and Autism assessments for children and young people aged 0 - 18 years. You will have the opportunity to increase your assessment skills and gain understanding of the role of clinical psychology within a multidisciplinary neurodevelopmental service under the supervision of a clinical psychologist. This role also supports increasing research skills and developing evaluations for various improvement initiatives, there are opportunities for delivering training and providing interventions.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will assist and support high-quality specialist neurodevelopmental assessments as part of a multi-disciplinary team to children and young people (0-18 years) and their families and carers. The assessment process involves using psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, structured observations including home and discreet school observations. You will carry out semi-structured interviews as part of the history taking procedure with the client, family members and other agencies involved with the service user.

You will liaise with other partner agencies gathering information as part of a neurodevelopmental assessment.

You will support clinicians with administrative tasks associated with the provision of psychology input e.g., preparation and production of reports and letters; photocopying; production of training packs and psycho educational resources.

To work in a neuro-affirmative way, in line with the aims and ethos of the service.

Assist in psychological assessment, utilising psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, structured observations including home and discreet school observations.

Analyse the results of these assessments under the supervision of a child clinical psychologist. Provide this treatment package as appropriate.

Liaise with education, local authority and other partner agencies to gather information as part of an neurodevelopmental assessments.

Assist Child Psychology staff with administrative tasks associated with the provision of psychology input to service users e.g., scheduling appointments and room bookings, preparation and production of reports and letters; photocopying; production of training packs and psycho educational resources.

Communicate complex and sensitive information empathically, using language which is appropriate to the client group e.g., under 16, and which takes into account any learning difficulties, special needs.

To assist in communicating in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans.

Support the team with the delivery of psychoeducational groups around neurodevelopmental differences

Plan and prioritise work effectively in order to combine a clinical caseload with research commitments, such as literature reviews and service evaluations

To participate in regular team meetings and contribute to the development of the service.

To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the Health Care Professions Council, the British Psychological Society and providers policies and procedures.

Teaching, training, and supervision

To receive regular supervision from a Clinical Psychologist.

To assist Young Minds Matter staff in developing and providing training to professionals and non-professionals involved in offering input to children and young people with mental health, emotional and / or behavioural difficulties.

To assist with the planning, organising and provision of local and organisation wide in-service training and case discussion forums for Young Minds Matter and Psychology staff.

Responsibilities for resources

Responsible for booking out and in psychometric tests and questionnaires before and after use and ensuring all books and equipment are returned to the correct place at the end of use.

Responsible for auditing of resources, including books, toys and test equipment.

Responsible for monitoring stock levels and alerting administrative staff if any materials, questionnaires are running low; are no longer fit for purpose and assisting with making orders as appropriate.

Continued Professional Development

Responsible for gaining additional and on-going experience and skills relevant to child psychology via further reading, attendance at internal and external CPD training events, regular professional, clinical and line management supervision.

Responsible for participating in the organisations annual staff appraisal process.

To meet appropriate standards of practice in the quality and timeliness of the service provided. The standards of practice will include meeting the standards defined by the British Psychological Society (including the Division of Clinical Psychology and the Division of Counselling Psychology where relevant) and NAVIGO health and social care provider.

  • A BPS accredited Honours Degree in Psychology at a 2:1 or higher.

Desirable

  • Other related academic qualifications to Masters level.
  • Registration with the BPS.
