Grounds & Estates Operative, part of the Estates

Main duties of the job
As a Grounds
& Estates Operative you would be working as part of a small and friendly
team within The Estates Team. Your job would be to provide a high-quality
service across Navigo's sites, ensuring that the estate, grounds, and communal
areas are well-maintained, carrying out a programme of works, as well as any
day-to-day ad-hoc tasks.
There will be
a requirement to be flexible and work at all sites within the organisation,
especially when covering team absences or unforeseen eventualities.
The
role will suit a person who has experience of working in a grounds or estates
role within the NHS or similar setting, a friendly adaptable attitude and
enjoys the variety this role offers, depending on the needs of the business.

Job description
Job responsibilities
Develop and maintain
positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors and service users.
Assist and support the
Estates and Grounds Manager during your day-to-day duties to ensure compliance
with all health and safety legislation, standards and procedures.
Respond to grounds related
incidents as they arise and advise on appropriate course of action.
Assist with operational
tasks within the wider estates functions as and when required to provide
support for colleagues.
Maintain sufficient stock
levels for chemicals, spares and equipment and request via the Estates and
Grounds Manager, the supply of goods with reference to manufacturers product
numbers.
Correctly follow routine
maintenance schedules and procedures for the grounds and gardens, vehicles and
equipment.
Safely and correctly
prepare, clean, use and store equipment, tools, materials and work areas
leaving them in a suitable condition for future use.
Undertakes all grounds
maintenance work both hard and soft including:
Grass cutting using both
ride-on and pedestrian equipment.
Strimming, weeding &
scarifying.
Pruning & hedge cutting
using handheld equipment
Planting and maintaining
borders
Winter grounds maintenance
including additional gritting & Snow clearing as required.
Planning and construction of
new and renovated areas.
flagging, kerbing, repairs to
tarmac, block paving & fences.
Keep the sites tidy and
generally free from leaves and debris.
Inspects landscaping,
footpaths and trees on a weekly basis to identify defective or dangerous areas
and report to the Estates and Grounds Manager.
Maintains upkeep of borders
in the internal courtyards and enhanced gardens across all sites.
Undertakes annual pesticide
spraying in accordance with manufactures instructions
Ensure that the plant,
equipment and buildings within the Estates Department are always secure.
Liaise with colleagues to
ensure adequate cover is maintained during periods of annual leave and other
staff absences.
During winter months support
Estates colleagues (internally and externally) with building repairs, projects
and maintenance.
Assist and support the
Estates and Grounds Manager in project work, surveys, and other similar duties.

- Proven ability to understand and take instruction and with detailed procedures.
Desirable
- Experience in a similar role
- Working with and alongside multiple trades
Qualifications

- NVQ level 2 or City & Guilds, certificate in Horticulture or equivalent grounds maintenance qualification
- Minimum 3 years proven experience within a similar commercial grounds maintenance role.
Desirable
- Approved pesticide application PA1 & PA6
- Ride on/Pedestrian mower certificates
- Grounds Machinery training
